PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To assist the Aboriginal Homeless & Fringe Dweller Support Service Worker and Rough Sleeper Outreach Workers in their day-to-day operations. To facilitate an integrated approach between specialist homelessness services and mainstream agencies and to assist clients to improve their shelter/environmental circumstances, considering individual, cultural and lifestyle choices.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
ESSENTIAL:
Certificate II or higher in Community Services Qualification;
Ability to communicate with indigenous people from different communities and interest groups;
Ability to work under pressure;
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a community-based organisation;
Cross cultural sensitivity and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal Communities and people;
Sound knowledge of Aboriginal culture & family dynamics and the impact of trauma;
Ability to manage challenging and aggressive behaviours when dealing with intoxicated clients;
Ability to perform soundly in a crisis situation;
Current Police Certificate (within 3 months) and Working with Children Check;
Current WA “C” Class Drivers Licence;
Ability to work outside of normal business hours;
Ability to travel and stay overnight/s as required
DESIRABLE:
Well-developed computer skills including the use of all Microsoft Office Suite.
