Job Description

As a Telecommunications Technician, you’ll enjoy a unique and diverse career working with experts in their fields and state-of-the-art telecommunications systems. As a highly adaptable member of the Army’s advanced information and communication systems team, the signallers, you’ll think on your feet to keep the Army connected, and to keep those connections protected.

You’ll be responsible for delivering vital military communications from the battlefield or the barracks. Operating, maintaining and managing telecommunications systems that aren’t available to your civilian peers, you’ll be responsible for ensuring all radio, fibre optic, microwave and satellite links are available when needed – anywhere in the world. Whether you’re working in the field or from the barracks, you’ll contribute to land, cyber and space operations.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties may include:
installing, maintaining and altering telecommunications systems and general equipment for Army deployments in peace, crisis or conflict
planning, designing, implementing and maintaining complex communications and information systems
assisting commanders by communicating vital information using radio, fibre optic,



information systems, satellite links and more
ensuring the Army’s information services are available wherever needed.

With paid training, you’ll gain all the skills you need to tackle anything this rewarding role throws at you. Plus, you’ll be supported by qualified and enthusiastic Army personnel who’ll provide the necessary guidance to ensure you’re prepared.

Following completion of your Initial Employment Training, you’ll receive nationally recognised qualifications. You’ll gain an ICT30519 Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology and become a registered cabler under the Australian Communications and Media Authority customer cabling regulatory requirements. You’ll also receive an Open Cabler Registration licence, which covers cabling endorsements in structured/Cat 5/Cat 6, optical fibre, coaxial, underground and aerial cabling specialisations.

This training and support continues as your career progresses, equipping you with qualifications and a range of skills that will advantage you, wherever your career takes you.
