Burwood Corps is a community-focused church, partnering with the wider community to help transform one life at a time with the love of Jesus.
This is achieved through Sunday Worship Services, Community English Classes, Seniors Community Group and other Community Support.
About the role
As a Community Engagement Worker, this is your opportunity to work with the Burwood Corps Salvos Team to design and deliver impactful community programs that respond to local needs and advance The Salvation Army's mission.
Reporting to the Corps Officer, this is a 12-month maximum term, part-time position offering 16 hours a week with rostered days on Friday and Saturday, based in Burwood, NSW.
How you will make an impact
Build trusted relationships with vulnerable and socially isolated young people ****** years), fostering connection, inclusion, and belonging.
Deliver engaging youth and young adult programs on Friday and Saturday evenings, alongside outreach activities that connect with the local community.
Identify participant needs and support access to appropriate services through referrals and ongoing engagement.
Develop strong partnerships with community organisations and Salvation Army services to strengthen support networks and program outcomes.
Assist with the planning and delivery of community events, activities, and communications that promote participation and engagement.
Support volunteer involvement, maintain accurate program records, and work collaboratively with the Corps team to meet local community needs.
What you will bring
Tertiary qualifications in Community Services/Social Work – minimum certificate level, or relevant experience or
Experience in community engagement on behalf of a religious institution or not-for-profit organization.




Musical skills or experience leading music-based activities would be highly regarded and may be used to support youth engagement and community programs.
Demonstrated experience in developing and running community-based activities.
Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate with community partners and community members.
Bilingual or multilingual skills would be highly regarded, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with members of Burwood's culturally and linguistically diverse community.
A national police record check is required
A Valid NSW Drivers Licence
A Valid NSW Working With Children Check
Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army
A demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the mission, values and Christian ethos of The Salvation Army will be highly regarded.

Conditions
Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Level 3.
