Specialist Children's Practitioner
Full-time (part-time hours negotiable) | Darwin, NT | SCHADS Award – Level 5
Why this role matters
The Salvation Army's Family Violence Services in the Northern Territory supports adults and children who have experienced or are experiencing family violence.
Our teams provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment that is responsive to individual needs and grounded in a feminist, trauma informed practice framework.
Children's voices, experiences and healing are central to our work.
This role plays a vital part in helping children rebuild safety, confidence and connection after trauma, ensuring they are supported in ways that are culturally responsive, empowering and deeply respectful of their individual needs.
About the role
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Specialist Children's Practitioner to join our NT Family Violence Services.
This permanent, full-time role, provides trauma informed case management and therapeutic interventions to children who have experienced family violence.
You will work closely with the specialist FV team to deliver holistic, child centred support that strengthens wellbeing, safety and recovery.
Your work will include individual and group interventions, secondary consultations with staff, and the development of resources that support children's healing.
You will hold space for children's voices, advocate for their needs, and contribute to a collaborative, culturally safe service environment.
This is a deeply meaningful role where your expertise can shape brighter futures for children and families.
This permanent full-time position (with part-time hours negotiable for the right candidate) within the Family Violence Service, reporting to the Team Leader.
Pay is in accordance with a SCHADS Level 5.
How you will make an impact
Providing holistic case management and therapeutic interventions for children
Delivering trauma informed support that reduces risk and promotes long term recovery
Completing risk assessments and safety planning in line with FV protocols




Offering secondary consultations to support staff working with children
Holding space for children's voices in relation to Family Law and Child Protection
Collaborating with case managers and relevant agencies for referrals
Providing education and training to staff
Maintaining high-quality notes and meeting data requirements
Contributing to a culturally safe environment for children and families
What you will bring
A degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling
Registration with a relevant accredited peak body (AASW, APS, ACA etc)
Experience counselling children and families who have experienced trauma
Experience supporting women and children impacted by family violence
A solid history of working with children from diverse backgrounds
Ability to work autonomously with sound professional judgement
Excellent written and digital record keeping skills
Resilience, integrity and a calm, child centred approach
