Drive internal audit, assurance, risk business continuity High-impact governance role 12 months contract About the Opportunity Our client is seeking an experienced, proactive Audit and Assurance Officer to coordinate and deliver key components of its internal audit, assurance, risk management, and business continuity functions.
In this role, you will provide specialist advice that strengthens governance frameworks, ensures operational compliance, and enhances organisational resilience.
Working closely with executive leadership and external providers, you will translate audit insights into meaningful organisational improvements.
Key Responsibilities Manage the delivery of the approved Annual Internal Audit Plan, overseeing audit planning, stakeholder liaison, information gathering, and end-to-end audit progress.
Oversee the contract with the outsourced internal audit service provider, ensuring milestone delivery, service quality, and internal feedback reporting.
Maintain the audit recommendations register, monitoring and escalating agreed management actions through to timely closure.
Prepare high-quality board/committee papers, briefings, and reports for the Audit and Risk Committee and senior leadership; support committee operations including member onboarding.
Coordinate elements of the business continuity framework, including maintenance of business continuity plans, testing exercises, and improvement action tracking.
Partner collaboratively with business divisions to provide specialist guidance on internal controls, risk workshops, external reviews, and compliance assessments.
What You Will Bring Proven experience in internal audit, assurance, risk management, or governance within an Australian Government or complex public sector context.
Sound judgment and robust analytical skills to interpret complex data, assess control effectiveness, and identify systemic improvement opportunities.
Demonstrated ability to manage external service contracts and build productive relationships across multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed teams.
Exceptional written communication skills with proven experience preparing executive-level briefings, reports, and governance documentation.
High attention to detail, strong organisational skills to manage competing priorities, and the ability to operate autonomously in a dynamic environment.
