Our Tier 1 Mining Client is looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support the delivery of a major brownfield fixed-plant replacement and upgrade project within the WA resources sector.
Roster: 2/1 FIFO from Perth Start date: ASAP Duration: approx.
12 months - depending on client requirements Pay Rate: $***** - $****** p/h + Super depending on experience Please note that only people with relevant experience will be considered and contacted.
The Role: This is a practical, field-focused position supporting the project through fabrication, construction, shutdown execution, installation, testing, commissioning and handover.
Working closely with contractors, engineering disciplines, Operations and Maintenance, you will help coordinate complex mechanical works involving surge bins, chutes, conveyors, structural steel and associated fixed-plant equipment.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide day-to-day mechanical engineering support throughout construction, shutdown execution, commissioning and handover.
Review mechanical drawings, specifications, vendor data, work packs and contractor deliverables for compliance and constructability.
Coordinate interfaces across mechanical, structural, piping, electrical and instrumentation (SMPE I) disciplines.
Manage contractor technical queries, RFIs, field changes and non-conformances.
Review and witness quality activities including ITPs, ITRs, welding documentation, inspection records and test reports.
Support shutdown planning and readiness across access, isolations, materials, labour, tooling, temporary works,



lifting and commissioning requirements.
Review construction methodologies, lift studies and temporary works associated with equipment installation and replacement.
Monitor contractor progress, productivity, schedule and cost performance.
Identify emerging project constraints and risks and provide accurate status reporting and forecasts.
Support FAT, SAT, pre-commissioning, static and dynamic commissioning, troubleshooting and defect resolution.
Drive progressive completions and handover, including punch lists, redlines, as-built information and commissioning documentation.
Participate in constructability and risk reviews and conduct regular site inspections to verify works against approved drawings and procedures.
Maintain a robust focus on safe field execution throughout all phases of delivery.
Required Experience: Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification - essential.
Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering and project delivery within mining, resources or heavy industry.
Demonstrated experience delivering brownfield fixed-plant construction and shutdown scopes.
Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, vendor documentation and project scopes.
Experience coordinating contractors and multidisciplinary engineering interfaces.
Experience across quality documentation, completions and commissioning activities.
Working knowledge of mechanical installation, structural steel, welding, lifting,



temporary works and construction verification.
Strong understanding of shutdown planning, quality assurance and contractor management.
Practical mechanical engineering judgement with a strong construction and commissioning focus.
Strong communication, planning and problem-solving skills.
Valid C Class Driver's Licence.
Highly Regarded: Experience with materials-handling systems, including surge bins, chutes, conveyors and associated mechanical equipment.
Previous experience working within Port Hedland operations.
Eligibility for professional membership with Engineers Australia.
Project management, construction management or relevant safety qualifications.
