About the role
This role contributes to the success of the City by providing an efficient and effective rubbish and recycling collection service for the City of Hobart.
As a Waste Driver Side Loader Collections/Labourer, you will be part of the Waste Operations Team within the Infrastructure and Assets Network, City Resilience Group.
The position is classified as Municipal Employee Level 4 under the Hobart City Council Enterprise Agreement ****.
Role accountabilities include:
Ensuring mobile garbage and recycling bins are emptied correctly and returned to designated areas, including picking up any spilt material.
Operating and maintaining plant and equipment, including side and rear loading compaction collection vehicles.
Performing duties in accordance with relevant Safe Work Method Statements, standard operating procedures, plant operation manuals and operator instructions.
Providing high quality customer service while undertaking the duties and functions of the position.
Communicating effectively with employees, contractors and members of the public.
Ensuring services are performed safely and efficiently, while complying with environmentally sustainable practices.
Working as a cohesive member of the broader Waste Operations Team and supporting continuous improvement across unit operations.
You are a reliable and safety-focused operator who takes pride in delivering essential services to the community.
You bring practical experience in operating medium mobile plant and are confident working with waste collection vehicles, including side loader and rear loader vehicles.
You are comfortable working autonomously, managing assigned tasks within required timeframes and following maps, rosters, daily works programs and run sheets.
You communicate respectfully with colleagues and members of the public and understand the importance of contributing to a positive, safe and team-oriented workplace.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Completion of Year 10,
or Certificate III in Waste Management or Asset Maintenance (Waste Operations), or the willingness and ability to obtain the relevant qualification within 12 months of commencement.
Demonstrated competency in operating medium mobile plant.
Experience driving side loader and rear loader vehicles.
The ability to read and understand maps, work rosters, daily works programs and run sheets.
The ability to work autonomously and complete tasks within specified timeframes.
Strong communication skills and a commitment to teamwork and customer service.
Availability to work rostered and un-rostered weekends and public holidays.
Previous experience in waste collections and operations will be highly regarded.
