Maternity Care Assistant - Fetal Medicine | Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated MCA to gain experience in a busy tertiary Fetal Medicine Unit at a leading teaching hospital.
As a specialist MCA dealing with complicated fetal issues, you will work alongside midwives, assist consultants and the Multidisciplinary Team.
You will be responsible for supporting the women and their families during their visits and procedures.
This is an opportunity to learn new skills and be part of a specialist team.
Excellent communication skills are essential for this role.
Good organisational skills and IT literacy will be required as you will be assisting with administrative tasks for patient flow through the department and data management.
You will be recruited at Band 2 if you have not yet completed CUH HCSW induction which includes completion of the Care Certificate and Competencies.
Once completed you will move up to Band 3. If you are currently working in a support worker role and have therefore completed these, you will be recruited as Band 3
Please note you will be required to undertake a Functional Skills Test as part of your interview assessment.
You will need to pass this in order to proceed to a Conditional Offer.
This is applicable if you are not currently working as a Support worker at CUH.
1. A kind, compassionate, sensitive, and empathetic worker who demonstrates attitudes and behaviours that promote and support a positive experience for women attending the fetal medicine department.
2. To be able to work within a small specialist team of midwives and consultants.
3. An effective communicator, with women and their families, all members of the fetal medicine team, and the wider maternity and CUH team.
4. A calm and diligent member of the team, able to work in an emotionally charged setting.
Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
1. Demonstrate CUH values and behaviours, 'Safe, Kind and Excellent' at all times.
2. Be a positive role model and an effective team member.
3. Provide compassionate care for women and their families at the point of contact, and throughout their attendance at the fetal medicine department.
4. Provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal care to women, which is respectful and protects women's dignity and privacy.
5. Be an advocate for women.
6. Act as chaperone for women, midwives, and consultants during sensitive examinations.
7.
Escort women to other clinical departments when required.
8. Accurately and promptly carrying out delegated tasks, as directed by the Consultant and Midwife.
9. To be trained to assist consultants when sterile invasive procedure is being performed.
To be trained and be proficient in the use of software Astraia for recording scan measurements and information.
10. Be an effective member of the team when emergency situations occur, under the instruction and supervision of the Registered Midwife.
11. Provide administrative support to midwives and receptionist and database management.

In order to start in this role as a Band 3 there is a requirement that the National Care certificate (NCC) has been completed alongside a practical/ in -person competency booklet.
Successful candidates that are unable to evidence completion of these requirements will start in the role at a Band 2 and therefore will not be eligible for sponsorship.
Successful candidates that are able to provide this evidence may be permitted to commence at a Band 3. Starting salary and eligibility for sponsorship, if requested, will be considered at conditional offer.
