This is an excellent opportunity for a Tax lawyer to join the nationally recognised Tax practice of a top-tier international law firm, working on some of the most complex and interesting tax transactions, advisory matters and disputes in the market.
Based in Melbourne or Sydney, you'll work closely with Partners and lawyers across the national Tax team, advising many of Australia's and the world's leading companies.
The practice has a strong focus on direct and income tax and offers genuine breadth across advisory, transactional and tax controversy work.
The national structure means you'll work with different Partners, giving you the opportunity to develop specialist expertise while maintaining broad technical exposure.
Through the firm's global alliance network, you'll also have access to international collaboration, cross-border matters and global knowledge sharing.
What You'll Be Working On Depending on your experience and interests, you'll work across matters including: Direct and income tax advisory; Tax structuring and advice on complex commercial transactions and projects; Transactional tax matters for major Australian and international clients; Tax controversy and disputes, including transfer pricing matters; ATO reviews, audits and objections; Private and class rulings; Alternative dispute resolution; Mutual agreement procedures; Tax litigation; FIRB approvals and associated tax matters; Strategic ATO engagement and advice on managing tax risk; Working with leading members of the Tax Bar on opinions and disputes; and Providing specialist tax support across significant transactions and projects in sectors including technology, energy, infrastructure and financial services.
You'll also collaborate closely with Corporate M A, Banking Finance, Investment Funds Superannuation, Real Estate and Dispute Resolution teams to provide integrated and commercially focused advice.
You'll have regular client exposure and the opportunity to manage smaller matters and elements of larger matters autonomously, while working collaboratively with experienced Partners and lawyers across the broader practice.
About You We're interested in speaking with Tax lawyers at mid-level Associate through to developing Senior Associate level who have: Tax experience gained within a large local or international law firm, or a firm with a recognised specialist Tax practice; Experience in tax advisory and transactional work and/or tax controversy, including audits, objections and litigation; Experience specialising in direct and income tax, or a combination of direct and indirect tax work; Regular client exposure and experience providing advice both autonomously and as part of a team; The ability to independently manage smaller matters and elements of larger, more complex matters; Strong technical and commercial skills; and A desire to continue learning, developing, networking and mentoring others.
