Animal Referral and Emergency Centre
New South Wales
Perhaps you love the variety and challenge of emergency nursing.
Perhaps you're an experienced GP nurse ready to develop your skills in a hospital workplace.
Or maybe you're looking for a workplace where your nursing career can continue to evolve as your interests do.
At AREC, emergency and critical care remains at the heart of what we do, but it's no longer the only direction your career can take.
With our referral services continuing to grow across Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Rehabilitation and Behaviour, this is an exciting time to join our nursing team and become part of a truly multidisciplinary veterinary hospital.
About us:
AREC (Animal Referral and Emergency Centre) was established in **** and is a privately owned and operated emergency veterinary hospital led by a singular, highly regarded emergency veterinarian, Dr. David Tabrett, who continues to work within the business.
We are a family-oriented, non-corporate, ASAV accredited "Hospital of Excellence" practice with a collaborative team of more than 110 employees.
Our mission is to provide peace of mind for our clients – that is, both pet owners of the Hunter and the local vet clinics to offer relief for after-hours, emergencies, and referral services.

The Role:
We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our team, with Emergency and Critical Care being the primary focus of this position.
You'll work alongside our experienced emergency veterinarians and nursing team, caring for a diverse range of emergency and hospitalised patients and continuing to build your clinical skills through hands on experience, support and training.
For nurses new to emergency, we'll support your development as you build confidence and capability within ECC, with the opportunity to progress towards greater autonomy as your experience grows.
But one of the things that makes this opportunity particularly exciting is where AREC is heading.
Alongside our established emergency service, our referral offering now includes Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Rehabilitation and Behaviour.
As these services continue to develop, our nurses have the opportunity to work within a hospital environment where they can be exposed to different disciplines, collaborate with clinicians across multiple areas of veterinary medicine and continue discovering where they would like their career to take them.
You might join us for ECC, but your career at AREC doesn't necessarily have to stop there.
Your Duties and Responsibilities:
Intravenous catheter placement, intravenous blood samples, assisting with radiographs, bandaging and monitoring anaesthetics
Ensure appropriate diagnostics are performed and results recorded and communicated
Advanced nursing techniques such as ventilator care

Experience in working both sole charge and in a team
Confident in your nursing ability
