We are seeking to establish a pool of Lead Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the **** school year.
Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
The School of Special Educational Needs: Disability (SSEND)
SSEND is one of eight Specialist Schools within Statewide Services.
At SSEND we partner with schools and communities to deliver an effective, responsive and integrated service that supports students with additional needs to achieve their potential.
Support is provided state-wide through a Request for Assistance model that matches the needs of schools to the skill set of our staff.
SSEND seeks to make a valued contribution to education through the provision of evidence- informed strategies and practical support for students with disability and learning disabilities.
Our Consulting Teachers work throughout the state, and support includes individualised student support, whole school consultancy, development and delivery of skilled learning and creation of online resources and information.
Our school mission, (partnering with schools to provide collaborative support and resources that promote learning environments where every student's potential is realised), is at the heart of what we do.
The Lead Special Needs Education Assistants will work alongside Consulting Teachers to support this work.
We have teams based at Statewide Services Centre (Padbury), and at our south hub (South Lake Primary School).
Suitable applicants may be based at either of these locations.
Suitable applicants may also be required to regularly work across a number of metropolitan and regional locations throughout the state.
The role involves state-wide travel with overnight stays and may include long distance driving, some of which may be in remote locations.
Suitable applicants would ideally hold a current and valid 'C' class driver's license.
Travel may involve the use of the employee's own motor vehicle with reimbursement available.

The Role
As Lead Special Needs Education Assistant, suitable applicants will work collaboratively with Consulting Teachers,



to model evidence-informed interventions to school staff where SSEND is supporting individual and whole school Requests for Assistance.
They may be responsible for assisting Consulting Teachers to deliver planned education programs and display outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to be able to successfully participate within a team situation, working alongside school staff, School Psychology Services and external agencies, often within a high-pressure environment, to assist with problem solving, and implementing strategies and processes to achieve outcomes.
Suitable applicants may also work independently of the Consulting Teacher to provide direct guided support to students and peers.
They will ideally display an excellent understanding of supporting students with a disability using evidence-based strategies and interventions.
Suitable applicants would work with other Education Assistants to develop strategies which address issues that assist teachers in providing care and educational programs for students.
They would assist in collecting and reporting data that will assist in improving outcomes for students.

Eligibility

Demonstrated considerable knowledge and understanding of the delivery of education programs and/or behaviour management plans; and ability to identify problems and assist teachers and other Education Assistants in the development of strategies and solutions.
Demonstrated well developed oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, mentor, coach, induct and train other Education Assistants and professional teams, including providing advice and evaluating education programs.
Demonstrated well developed written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to coordinate, collect and present student data at a whole school community level in a meaningful way.
Demonstrated well developed organisational skills, including the ability to coordinate staff rosters and relief to assist in the delivery of effective education programs.
