We are currently seeking an experienced SMP Estimator to join our Projects team.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator with a strong Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP) background to work across a diverse range of brownfields mining and resources projects, from initial tendering and site scoping through to project execution.
About the Role
The SMP Estimator will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates, tenders and budgets for SMP projects.
A key part of this role will be the ability to read, understand and interpret the Scope of Work (SOW) and translate project requirements into practical construction methodologies, quantities, labour requirements, materials, equipment and subcontractor costs.
The successful candidate will also be required to attend site from time to time to inspect and scope projects, develop a clear understanding of existing site conditions and ensure estimates accurately reflect the work required.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed estimates and tenders for structural, mechanical and piping works.
Review and interpret Scopes of Work (SOW), drawings, specifications, BOQs, schedules and tender documentation.
Develop accurate labour, material, equipment and subcontractor cost estimates.
Understand the full project scope and identify what is required to execute the works, including potential gaps, risks and assumptions.
Conduct site visits when required to inspect existing conditions and scope projects for tendering and estimating purposes.
Develop practical construction methodologies and associated cost estimates.
Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
Prepare tender submissions, pricing schedules and supporting documentation.
Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, risks and commercial opportunities.
Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, engineers, project managers,
supervisors and clients as required.
Assist with project budgets, cost planning and forecasting.
Maintain estimating databases, rates and historical project information.
Participate in tender reviews and provide estimating input to project delivery teams.
Work closely with the Projects team to ensure estimates are accurate, competitive and achievable.
About You We are looking for an estimator who has a strong understanding of SMP construction within the mining and resources sector and can look beyond drawings and quantities to understand how the work will actually be executed on site.
Demonstrated experience as an SMP Estimator within mining, resources, construction or engineering.
Trade background or tertiary qualifications in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Strong knowledge of structural steel, mechanical equipment, piping and associated installation activities.
The ability to read, understand and interpret a Scope of Work and determine the complete requirements of a project.
Experience developing construction methodologies and productivity-based estimates.
The ability and willingness to attend mine sites and project locations to scope works when required.
Strong understanding of construction labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor requirements.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a project team.
Previous experience with mining project tenders,
shutdowns and brownfield projects would be highly regarded.
Proficiency in estimating and scheduling software (e.g. Excel, MS Project, P6, 3D models) Trade Background Highly Regarded.
A trade background in mechanical fitting, fabrication, boilermaking, piping or another relevant SMP trade will be highly regarded.
