About Us
Julatten Tavern is a country pub located in the small rural community of Julatten, between Mareeba and Port Douglas.
Under recent ownership, we're bringing the Tavern back with a focus on
great food, country hospitality and a relaxed local atmosphere
.
Our menu is classic country pub food done well — large portion of menu focusing on quality steaks and pub favourites, alongside rotating specials.
We're looking for a reliable and capable
Assistant Chef
to join our kitchen team.
About the Role
Working alongside our Head Chef, you'll help with the preparation and delivery of lunch and dinner service and the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
You'll need to be confident working a busy service, following recipes and portion controls, maintaining consistency and jumping between different sections when required.
This is a hands-on role in a small team, so everyone works together.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Head Chef with daily kitchen operations




Prepare and cook meals during lunch and dinner service
Work across
grill, fryer, pans and prep
Maintain a clean, organised kitchen
Follow food safety and workplace hygiene requirements
Work independently when required
About You
We're looking for someone who:
Has previous experience working as a
chef or experienced cook
Is reliable, clean, organised and works well within a team
Is available for
weekends, evenings and public holidays
Has a current
Food Safety Certificate
Has full Australian working rights
Formal chef qualifications is preferred , but
practical experience, reliability and ability in the kitchen are equally important to us
.
