Support Worker Needed – Community Participation & Lifestyle Support
!!!
Please read through this long ad carefully and only apply if you genuinely feel you are a positive fit for this participant.
This is a long-term support arrangement rather than light or casual shifts.
Location: Warnbro (Rockingham area)
Hours: Initially 4 hours per week, with the potential to increase to up to 12 hours per week once a good fit has been established.
Schedule is flexible and can be discussed.
Service Type: NDIS Support Worker
We are looking for a bright, positive and energetic Support Worker to support an adult NDIS participant in gradually improving his daily routine, motivation and community participation.
The most important part of this role is building a genuine relationship with the participant first.
The participant may take some time to become comfortable with a new person, so the successful candidate needs to be able to build trust naturally while maintaining appropriate qualified boundaries.
At the same time, this is not a passive companionship role.
The right person needs to be able to positively motivate and encourage the participant when something is important for his wellbeing or safety.
For example, if the participant does not want to attend an important medical appointment, the Support Worker should be able to remain respectful and non-confrontational while explaining the reason for the appointment, discussing the potential consequences of not attending, and encouraging the participant to reconsider his decision where appropriate.
The successful candidate will therefore need a good understanding of the balance between Duty of Care and Dignity of Risk — supporting the participant's right to make his own choices while also recognising situations where appropriate encouragement, risk awareness and professional judgement are required.
The role may include
Building a consistent and positive relationship with the participant
Encouraging healthy routines and daily engagement
Supporting community access and participation
Accompanying the participant to medical or other important appointments when required

Encouraging the participant to follow through with appropriate appointments and activities
Exploring new interests and activities together
Supporting social engagement and community participation
Providing positive encouragement without being unnecessarily forceful
Helping the participant gradually become more active outside the home
Current interests
The participant currently has an interest in:
Drones
Electronics
Fishing
These are starting points only.
One of the goals of the support is to discover additional interests and meaningful activities together, rather than assuming that the participant already knows what he wants to do.
This is not physically demanding work
The focus is primarily on communication, companionship, community participation, encouragement and building a positive working relationship with the participant.
What matters most is finding someone whose personality, communication style and approach are a genuinely good match for the participant.
The right relationship and personality fit are far more important than simply being able to complete a list of support tasks.
The person we are looking for
We are particularly interested in someone who is:
Bubbly, friendly and positive
Energetic and naturally engaging
A good conversationalist
Confident without being overbearing
Patient, but able to provide appropriate encouragement
Comfortable having difficult conversations when necessary
Able to motivate someone without creating unnecessary conflict
Respectful of participant choice and independence
Able to balance Duty of Care with Dignity of Risk
Reliable and consistent
Comfortable working independently
Able to develop genuine rapport with someone who may initially be reluctant to engage
Australian background preferred
For this particular participant,

we would prefer a Support Worker who has an Australian background and strong familiarity with Australian culture, communication styles and everyday community life.
This is a participant-specific matching consideration rather than a general preference regarding nationality or ethnicity.
We are looking for someone who can naturally connect with the participant, understand the cultural and social context he is familiar with, and help him feel comfortable engaging in everyday Australian community activities.
We recognise that good support comes from people from many different backgrounds.
However, based on the participant's current communication and engagement needs, we believe that someone with robust familiarity with the Australian environment may provide the best initial match for him.
Experience
Experience supporting NDIS participants is highly desirable.
Experience with psychosocial disability, community participation, motivation or complex support needs would be advantageous.
Relevant NDIS Worker Screening, First Aid/CPR, driver's licence and other required checks will be required as applicable to the role.
Pay
Two payment options are available:
$44 per hour as an independent contractor: If you have an ABN and can provide an invoice for your services.
$40 per hour + superannuation: If you prefer to be employed through our company payroll.
How to apply
If you believe your personality and approach would be a good match, please provide:
A brief introduction about yourself
Your relevant support experience
Your availability
Your qualifications/checks
A short description of how you approach supporting someone who is initially reluctant to participate
Applications will only be accepted via email at: ***email_hidden***
Please do not apply if you are only looking for occasional or casual shifts.
We are looking for someone who is genuinely interested in building a consistent, long-term relationship with the participant.
We are looking for the right personality and relationship fit, not simply someone who can complete a list of tasks.
