Magistrates Clerks play a central role in the delivery of justice in South Australia
As a Magistrates Clerk, you will work at the heart of the courtroom, supporting Magistrates to ensure proceedings run smoothly, fairly and with respect to the authority of the Court.
This is a dynamic and highly visible role that combines courtroom coordination with high-level administrative support in Chambers.
Every day brings new challenges.
You'll coordinate the orderly flow of matters before the Magistrate, anticipate and resolve issues as they arise, and liaise with judicial officers, legal practitioners, government agencies and members of the public, including self-represented parties.
Outside of court, you'll prepare accurate records, orders, judgments and case files, ensuring the integrity of the Court's work is maintained.
This is not a standard administrative role.
It requires professionalism, discretion and initiative in a highly formal and public setting.
You'll be relied upon to make quick, sound decisions under pressure while supporting the proper administration and independence of the Court
What we're looking for
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Composure, professionalism and attention to detail in a formal courtroom setting.
Initiative and sound judgment to anticipate issues, problem-solve and support smooth proceedings.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to engage respectfully with diverse court users.
Proficiency with technology, including case management systems and Microsoft Office.
Willingness to travel across South Australia, including overnight circuits.




Typing speed of at least 50 wpm with 98% accuracy is required.
Coaching, mentoring or experience in a legal or court setting will be highly regarded.

Remuneration
ASO3 ($74,095 - $78,694 per annum)ASO4 ($82,212 - $86,180 per annum)
Special Conditions
The following special conditions apply to this position:
Multiple full-time positions available.
Initial contracts are for 12 months, with possible extensions.




Appointment is dependent upon a current National Police Certificate that the CAA finds satisfactory.
As a justice agency, the CAA may receive details of spent convictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and use this information in the selection process.
You will be required to undertake work related intra or interstate travel, which may require driving a motor vehicle and overnight absences.
You will be required to work at any court sitting place in any jurisdiction of the Magistrates Court of Youth Court, or any business unit on a temporary or ongoing basis.
Appointment is under the Courts Administration Act ****.
