About the Role

The Theatre Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient and financially successful operation of Thebarton Theatre, overseeing up to 150 events annually across music, comedy, and community programming. The role encompasses managing venue operations, liaising with performing clients, supervising casual staff, coordinating events, engaging with stakeholders, and overseeing budget management.

Key Responsibilities:

- Venue and Operations management

- Oversee day to day management of the venue, including upkeep of the venue, preventative maintenance, programmed compliance and interaction with surrounding business community.

- Oversee the delivery of performances in an effective and profitable manner, including liaison and provision of services to clients, oversight of venue services such as front of house, security, bar services, merchandise retailing, theatre ushering and management.

- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety, fire safety, and relevant legislation.

- Manage venue bookings, scheduling, and logistics for performances and events.

- Supervise use of technical equipment and liaise with production staff.

- Build and coordinate a high performing event staff team to deliver excellent customer service, maximise revenue, and maintain a positive workplace culture.

Financial and Budget Management

- Manage theatre budget, including bar takings, cost of goods sold and staffing, merchandise and vending, casual staff and security, technical production costs, cleaning and other regular costs.

- Review financial reports in respect to gross margin for each even and provide commentary regarding the outcomes and inform future planning and budgeting.

Marketing and Community Engagement





- Collaborate with marketing staff to promote events and the theatre’s profile.

- Develop partnerships with community organisations, schools, and cultural groups.

- Support community access and inclusive participation in theatre programming

- Nurture a positive relationship with operational staff at the City of West Torrens.

Strategic Planning ad Development

- As part of the management team, contribute to long term planning for venue development and program growth.

- Identify opportunities for audience development and revenue diversification.

- Represent the venue at community and sector events as required.

About You

- Demonstrated knowledge of fly towers and their operation within a theatre environment.

- Experience supporting artists, corporate box clients, and general patrons.

- Minimum of two years’ hands-on theatre experience (concert only experience is not sufficient).

- Robust understanding of theatre operations, including work scheduling and show programming.

- Willingness and flexibility to work irregular and often unpredictable schedules, including extended runs of 5-6 consecutive days, weekends, and varying day/night shifts in line with touring production requirements.

These expectations are fundamental to the entertainment industry and must be fully understood by all candidates.

Special Requirements

This position will be required to be in attendance during the period that performing artists are on site at Thebarton Theatre. This includes and is mostly weekends.

While the role is full time, the times worked will be governed by the booked performances in any one week. Attendance at the theatre outside event days will be determined by operational requirements and the hours available within the position’s allotted 38 hours per week.
