Australian Doctor is an award-winning publication known for its high-quality investigative journalism.
We are looking for a journalist/news editor with a proven knowledge of the Australian health system and a background in commissioning, editing and proofing.
At heart, we are about telling dynamic, real-world human-interest stories, not regurgitating media releases.
The role demands a explicit and robust intellect combined with a passion for journalism and storytelling.
We are a friendly editorial team covering political, ethical and social issues — from euthanasia for patients with dementia to in-depth interviews with the federal Minister for Health and Ageing.
Former AusDoc staff have gone on to become health editors at The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian, as well as at the ABC and science publications such as Nature and New Scientist. We will provide support and training for the right candidate.
Attributes:
Experience producing and writing high-level journalism
Ability to identify stories that doctors find compelling
Ability to meet daily digital and print deadlines
Commitment to ensuring articles meet editorial standards
A team player with a willingness to learn and grow
