Ason Group
New South Wales
Ason Group is a specialist transport planning and engineering consultancy with a vision to improve the communities we live in. Founded in 2014 and combining decades of experience, we have grown into one of the largest traffic and transport consultancies in NSW, working predominantly across New South Wales and Queensland for developers, planners, architects, retailers, project managers, local councils and state government agencies.
Our work covers transport impact assessments, parking studies, transport modelling, road safety, intersection design, active transport and TMAPs. Most of our projects sit at the intersection of land use planning and transport, which keeps the work varied and the technical bar high.
We are looking for an experienced transport planner or engineer to step into a Senior role in our Sydney team — someone who can lead projects, work alongside our Directors and Principals on some of the most significant projects in NSW, and help our junior team members grow.
About the Role
You will report to the Team Leader – Transport Advisory and operate as project manager across a range of traffic and transport assignments. You will lead the day‑to‑day delivery, manage client contact, and take ownership of outputs, with a Principal acting as project director to provide support and direction.
You will play an active mentoring role for junior staff, helping them develop their skills and deliver their project tasks to the standard expected.
Project work spans transport impact assessments, parking studies, network demand analysis, active transport planning, sustainable transport strategies, and stakeholder engagement across NSW government and local council environments.
What You Will Do
- Project delivery and client management
- Lead and deliver allocated projects end‑to‑end, including scope management, quality assurance, and timely delivery
- Be the day‑to‑day client lead on assigned projects, maintaining strong professional relationships
- Preparing fee proposals and developing assessment methodologies
- Represent Ason Group in project and stakeholder meetings, including with TfNSW,
local councils, and private clients
- Work with the Principals to grow our key client accounts and relationships
Technical Work
- Lead the technical work and key deliverables — including Transport Management & Accessibility Plans, transport impact assessments, parking studies, network demand analyses and sustainable transport plans
- Provide technical advice to clients and project teams
- Apply GIS, data analytical tools, and design software (AutoCAD, ArcGIS / QGIS, Tableau, MS Excel or similar) as required
- Oversee and contribute to field investigations to support project delivery
- Apply Austroads, TfNSW and Australian Standards to projects.
Team Leadership and Mentoring
- Mentor and coach junior team members within acknowledged areas of expertise
- Allocate discrete tasks to junior staff in consultation with the Principal Lead
- Monitor project performance against budget and report on resourcing requirements and revenue forecasts
About You
- Self‑motivated and proactive, with the drive to lead work and grow within the role
- High personal standards — takes pride in the quality of outputs and the experience of clients and colleagues
- Strong communicator who builds trust with clients and supports the development of junior staff
What We Are Looking For
- Tertiary qualification in civil/traffic engineering, transport planning, or a related discipline
- At least 4 years of experience in traffic engineering or transport planning in Australia — candidates looking to make the move into a Senior role are encouraged to apply
- Hands‑on experience preparing traffic and transport deliverables — traffic impact assessments, parking studies, or similar
- Demonstrated ability to manage project tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision
- Familiarity with NSW regulatory frameworks, including TfNSW, DPHI, and local government requirements
- Working knowledge of transport modelling fundamentals — an understanding of inputs, outputs, and their implications for decision‑making (operational modelling experience is not required)
- Familiarity with Austroads guidelines and relevant Australian Standards
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Full, unrestricted working rights in Australia
- 5+ years of experience, with a track record of managing project delivery and client relationships
- Consulting background — though we are equally open to candidates from a public sector or government agency environment
- Experience across integrated land use and transport planning assessments
- Proficiency with GIS tools (ArcGIS or QGIS); experience with AutoCAD or Tableau is a bonus
What We Offer
- Competitive remuneration package, commensurate with ability
- Hybrid working arrangements after your initial settling‑in period
- 20 days annual leave plus 3 additional bonus days between Christmas and New Year
- Paid parental leave — 6 weeks for a primary caregiver, 3 weeks for a secondary caregiver
- A structured, tailored career development programme with annual performance and salary review — and a clear pathway to Principal Transport Planner
- Direct access to company Directors and Principals — no layers, no noise
- Genuine variety of project work across private development and government planning clients
- A collaborative, high‑performing team culture where your contribution is visible and valued
