Youth Wellbeing and Engagement Officer

Wunan Foundation is a leading Aboriginal development organisation based in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Its purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices that lead to independent, fulfilling lives.

Wunan is seeking a Youth Wellbeing and Engagement Officer.

Primary Purpose:

The Youth Wellbeing and Engagement Officer will work collaboratively with young people, families, Elders, community members, schools, service providers, and government agencies to create positive pathways and improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

Key Duties

- Build positive, respectful, and culturally safe relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people ages 8-25 years.
- Promote positive social and emotional wellbeing through individual support and group activities, working alongside existing youth services.
- Encourage healthy lifestyle choices, resilience, confidence, and self-determination.
- Support young people to develop positive life goals and aspirations.
- Ensure cultural protocols and practices are respected and incorporated into program delivery, include activities that foster positive role modelling, build life skills, and create pathways into education, training, and employment. Deliver one‑on‑one mentoring and practical support.

Requirements of the role:

- Requires good communication skills, verbal and written.
- Be able to build up positive working relationships with the individual, families, wider community other service providers.
- Work as a team with other staff members and work individually.




- Follow instructions, take on board both positive and negative feedback.
- Have a positive friendly attitude, responsible and punctual.

Essential Criteria:

- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, families, and communities.
- Proven ability to establish trusting and respectful relationships with young people and community members.
- Experience working collaboratively with government agencies, schools, community organisations, and service providers.
- Robust written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Desirable criteria:

- Experience working within an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation.

- Experience in youth mental health promotion, diversionary programs, or early intervention services.

- Experience facilitating cultural, leadership, sporting, or community engagement activities

Pre-employment requirements

☒ Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)

☒ Current Working with children clearance

☒ Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license
