The key duties of the position include:

The Role

The Director Transition Strategy, Programs and Engagement supports the Joint Transition Authority to deliver changes to the Defence People System that support positive transition outcomes for ADF personnel and their families.

The Directorate provides an interface for commanders and stakeholders from across the transition system, as well as a mechanism for sharing information with other Commonwealth agencies including Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veteran Family and Wellbeing Agency and Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation to support members as they transition from the ADF.

In this role, you will lead a part of Defence’s continuous improvement program to deliver improved transition outcomes for veterans. You will deliver initiatives against the Veteran Transition Strategy and the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide transition related recommendations.

Key responsibilities include:

- Accountability for JTA internal and external event management, continuous improvement activities and stakeholder engagement.
- Accountability for the Defence Single Access Mechanism team.
- The Commonwealth Representative for the Transition Support Services Contract.
- Leading and coordinating Defence’s input into the Veteran Transition Strategy Action Plan.
- Providing strategic advice, problem solving and issues management for internal and external stakeholders in relation to transition.
- Leading the development of transition related communication products, including the ADF Member and Family Transition Guide App, website and marketing content.




- Leading engagement with external Transition Ecosystem stakeholders.

About our Team

Joint Transition Authority (JTA) Branch sits within Military Personnel Division (MPD) and ensures Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel and their families are prepared for and supported through all stages of their transition from a predominantly military life to a predominantly civilian life.

To do this we need to be well integrated with the supports that are available within Defence, Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the Veteran and Family Wellbeing Agency, Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, Ex Service Organisations and across the states and territories.

You will be part of the JTA Command Team leading a branch culture that respects, values and includes all its ADF, APS and contractor members.

- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture aligned with Defence values.
- Demonstrated experience providing high-quality strategic advice to senior executives on complex organisational and stakeholder issues; with the ability to navigate complex governance, decision-making and policy frameworks.

Eligibility

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
