Vetlink is seeking an veterinarian to join a locally owned and operated veterinary practice in Canberra.
The practice is looking for a team player who will enjoy working alongside a blend of experienced clinicians and more recent graduates.
Full-time or part time employment is available, with flexible working hours to help the successful candidate achieve the right work-life balance.
The practice employs vets with a broad range of interests and experience. Areas of interest include behaviour, surgery, imaging, dentistry, exotics, internal medicine, dermatology, physiotherapy and practice management. Knowledge and skills are shared across the practices, providing opportunities for mentorship across many different areas. The group also includes a referral service with a specialist surgeon and a weekend emergency clinic.
This is an environment where vets are encouraged to develop their individual strengths and interests, with substantial clinical support and opportunities to pursue areas of interest. There are also genuine leadership opportunities, including the potential for partnership. Support extends beyond clinical development, with guidance around work-life balance and managing the stresses that can come with working in the veterinary profession.
Continuing education is strongly encouraged. Opportunities range from regular internal education sessions through to support for further study and memberships. Conference fees are supported, along with a daily allowance for travel and accommodation. Vets can also connect through special interest groups covering areas such as ultrasonography, medicine and behaviour,
as well as a broad range of social and recreational interests.
The hospital is an accredited AVA Great Place to Work, has recently been reaccredited as an ASAV Hospital of Excellence and holds ISFM Gold status. The ASAV Hospital of Excellence accreditation is a particularly valuable reflection of the hospital’s commitment to high veterinary standards.
The group also contributes to community organisations and animal rescue initiatives and operates its own charitable organisation, which provides animal health programs in Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory. Two trips are undertaken each year, with participating vets and nurses providing services including desexing and parasite treatment programs in remote communities.
Canberra offers an appealing combination of city amenities and easy access to the outdoors. With lakes, natural bushland and an extensive network of walking, running and mountain biking trails, there are plenty of ways to enjoy time away from work. The city also has a strong restaurant and cafe scene and a wide range of sporting, recreational and community activities. The South Coast and snowfields are popular weekend destinations, adding even more variety to life in the region.
This role could suit an experienced vet wanting to pursue particular clinical interests, or a senior veterinarian interested in future leadership opportunities. With flexible working arrangements, extensive professional support and a large veterinary community to become part of, there is considerable scope to shape the role around the successful candidate’s professional and personal interests.
