The Role
As the Industry Engagement Officer you will be accountable under broad direction, to achieve high impact industry engagement and meaningful stakeholder outcomes in support of the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA). You will have the ability to work independently and be required to use their initiative and judgement when engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
They will be required to execute event management activities and construct detailed reports in relation to ASCA’s programs, and contribute to strategic communication planning, program management and engagement activities.
An APS6 Industry Engagement Officer is expected to be a capable team member and be accountable to set work priorities. They must be able to build the team’s capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others in the team. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve team outcomes.
An APS 6 Industry Engagement Officer will have a considerable level of stakeholder engagement and will liaise with stakeholders in relation to complex and technical issues. They will be required to identify, anticipate and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations to achieve ASCA and Defence outcomes.
They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development. This position will require some travel and work away from the office and at times, outside of standard business hours. The individual will also be required to assist with carrying tangible materials for events, including but not limited to banners, boxes of merchandise, flyers, and similar items.

The Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) rapidly translates disruptive new technologies into Defence capability in close partnership with Australian industry and research organisations.
ASCA is a key element of Australia’s Defence innovation, science and technology efforts, taking Defence further, faster by accelerating the delivery of minimum viable capabilities that can rapidly be put into operational use.
The position of Industry Engagement Officer sits within ASCA’s Strategic Engagement and Communications team, reporting to the Assistant Director. The team’s main function is to align, enhance and enable ASCA’s communication and engagement activities to more effectively reach our key audiences both internally and externally, and support the delivery of program outcomes.
You will be at the cutting edge of innovation if Defence, working across ASCA’s directorates and exploring new mechansims that promote and support ASCA’s focus on delivering asymmetric capabilities in priority areas. The environment is fast paced, with priorities shifting on a daily basis as we work together as a small cohesive team to deliver outcomes to a high standard.
Our engagement with stakeholders is achieved through a variety of platforms and provides an prospect to gain an insight into the wider Defence innovation ecosystem.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will demonstrate their qualifications and experience at the APS 6 level against:
- Proven experience in planning, coordinating, and delivering events to advance ASCA’s engagement initiatives, supported by strong organisational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a proactive, hands on approach to event execution.
- Highly capable in events logistics and vendor coordination, scheduling,
building and maintaining registration pages, arranging travel, venue coordination, administrative tasks and ensuring smooth event execution.
- Have confidence completing data entry, updating records and databases accurately, and contributing to draft written content such as event briefs, promotional copy, and internal communications.
- Proven ability to develop reports, briefs to support ASCA’s industry engagement initiatives and communication channels.
- Work collaboratively and engage effectively with key stakeholder across a diverse network, communicate with influence, and deliver program/business outcomes.
- Have an ability to build and sustain effective relationships with team members and wider Defence stakeholders, and actively participate in team and group activities.
- Self-driven and outcome focused, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Eligibility
Security Clearance:
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at Negative Vetting Level 1.
