Workshop Manager

Finesse Engineering Services (FES) – Mackay, QLD

Finesse Engineering Services is a locally owned engineering and fabrication business servicing the mining and heavy industry sectors across Central Queensland.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Workshop Manager to lead our Mackay workshop and oversee the day-to-day delivery of fabrication, repair, refurbishment and maintenance projects.

This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who understands heavy fabrication and mining equipment and can effectively manage people, production, quality and deadlines.

The Role

Reporting to management, the Workshop Manager will be responsible for the overall performance of the workshop, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, to the required quality standards and within agreed timeframes.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Managing the day-to-day operations of the workshop

- Leading and coordinating workshop personnel, including boilermakers, mechanical trades and trade assistants

- Planning and allocating labour and resources across multiple projects

- Monitoring production schedules and ensuring jobs remain on track

- Coordinating materials, consumables, equipment and subcontractors

- Reviewing drawings, scopes and job requirements with the workshop team

- Ensuring fabrication and refurbishment works are completed to specification

- Maintaining high standards of quality and workmanship

- Identifying and addressing production issues before they impact delivery

- Driving workshop efficiency, productivity and continuous improvement

- Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with company safety and quality procedures

- Conducting toolbox meetings and maintaining robust communication with the workshop team

- Working closely with project, estimating, design and site teams





- Providing regular updates to management on workshop progress, labour requirements and upcoming workloads

- Supporting a positive, accountable and productive workshop culture

About You

The successful applicant will have:

- Previous experience in a Workshop Manager, Workshop Supervisor or Senior Leading Hand role

- Strong experience in heavy fabrication, mining equipment repairs or refurbishment

- Trade qualification in Boilermaking, Fabrication or a related field

- Strong leadership and people-management skills

- The ability to read and understand engineering drawings and scopes of work

- Excellent planning and organisational skills

- A strong understanding of workshop production and job scheduling

- A commitment to safety and quality

- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, management and tradespeople

- A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving

Experience working with mining attachments , structural fabrication and heavy mobile mining equipment will be highly regarded.
