About Safe Food Production Queensland

Safe Food Production Queensland is a statutory body established under the Food Production (Safety) Act 2000 to implement the Inter-Governmental Agreement on national food standards. It plays a pivotal role in regulating the production and processing of primary produce to ensure food is safe for human and animal consumption, and that Queensland meets and exceeds national food safety standards.

Safe Food Production Queensland’s mission is to promote and protect food safety in primary production and processing, ensuring consumers have confidence in the safety, integrity, and traceability of Queensland’s produce. By administering food safety schemes, Safe Food Queensland fosters consumer trust, enhances domestic and international market access, and supports industry growth, all underpinned by robust regulatory frameworks.

The government objectives for Safe Food Production Queensland include ensuring food safety management systems and practices meet food standards and community expectations. Safe Food operates in accordance with the Food Production (Safety) Act 2000 and reports to the Minister for Primary Industries. The agency's priority is to ensure food safety management systems and practices meet food standards and community expectations. Safe Food's collaborative approach with industry and other regulatory partners is crucial to achieving these objectives.

With deep partnerships across industry, government and consumers, Safe Food Production Queensland is recognised as a trusted, expert regulator. It operates within a complex ecosystem that spans approximately 90 agencies and jurisdictions, necessitating strategic leadership, robust governance, and collaborative influence.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chair and Board,



the Chief Executive Officer will lead Safe Food Production Queensland through a strategic transformation program, driving the development and implementation of a new vision and operating model that reflects the evolving food production landscape.

This role will see you:

- Shape and deliver a transformational strategy to position Safe Food Queensland as a forward-looking, innovative and nationally influential regulator.
- Oversee both sustaining and reframing arms of the business, ensuring the organisation remains operationally strong while evolving to meet future challenges.
- Lead organisational change, aligning structures, systems and culture to deliver purpose-driven impact.
- Develop strategic frameworks and governance systems that support innovation while maintaining public confidence and regulatory integrity.
- Engage at senior levels across government, industry and the community to influence national policy, secure strategic partnerships, and advance Queensland’s leadership position.
- Ensure robust financial performance, corporate governance and risk management frameworks to support operational excellence and accountability.
- Appoint, inspire and lead a high-performing leadership team, fostering a culture of participation, alignment, and performance.

The CEO will play a central role in shaping Queensland’s leadership in the food supply innovation ecosystem, driving conversations and reforms that have state and national significance.

- The capacity to manage complexity, navigate multiple jurisdictions, and deliver on both strategic and operational imperatives.
