We're excited to welcome additional Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) to our Forensic Nursing Services across Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service.
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is an experienced Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife with at least three years' postgraduate experience who has either completed, or is committed to completing, the required forensic medical examination training and local credentialling. The SANE provides patient-centred, culturally safe and trauma-informed care to people aged 14 years and over who disclose sexual assault.
Working within an extended scope of practice, the SANE conducts forensic sexual assault examinations, documents clinical and forensic findings, collects and preserves forensic specimens, addresses the person's immediate healthcare needs and contributes to subsequent legal proceedings when required.
The SANE works collaboratively with social workers, medical officers, police, forensic services and other relevant healthcare and support services to provide coordinated care and appropriate follow-up.
The position participates in a 24/7 on-call roster to support timely access to forensic examination services across Sunshine Coast Health.

Key Responsibilities include:
- Practice in accordance with code of ethics, professional standards and legislation affecting nursing practice by maintaining current knowledge and competence within scope of position.
- Provide compassionate, respectful, culturally safe and trauma-informed care that protects the person's dignity, autonomy,
privacy and individual needs.
- Explain the forensic examination process and obtain informed consent before undertaking any component of assessment, examination, treatment or evidence collection.
- Support the person to make informed choices and acknowledge their right to withdraw or modify consent at any stage.
Salary rates: $72.20 - $77.31 p.h. employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%) (NRG6(1)) (Multiple casual positions available, hours variable). Applications will remain current for 12 months.
