About the oppurtunity:
Make a meaningful difference as a FIFO-AOD Counsellor supporting the health, wellbeing and recovery of Yarnangu people across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. This is a unique opportunity to provide culturally secure, trauma-informed and community-focused AOD support across some of Australia's most remote communities. You'll deliver counselling, care coordination, education, prevention and harm minimisation initiatives that support individuals, families and communities to reduce the impacts of alcohol, other drugs and volatile substance use.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver counselling, care coordination, education, prevention and harm minimisation initiatives
- Support individuals, families and communities to reduce the impacts of alcohol, other drugs and volatile substance use
- Deliver meaningful AOD counselling, outreach and early intervention
- Contribute to community-led prevention, education and harm reduction initiatives
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands
- Work alongside Yarnangu communities, local workers, health professionals and community services
About you
You’re a compassionate AOD professional passionate about supporting people and communities.
Essential Criteria:
- A relevant qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs, Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in AOD, mental health, community services or a related field.
- Knowledge of harm minimisation, recovery-oriented practice and trauma-informed care.
- Experience in assessment, counselling, case management and care coordination.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills.
- A culturally respectful approach and the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal people and communities.
- A commitment to working in a malparara way and supporting community-led outcomes.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
- A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands.
Desirable:
- Experience working in remote Aboriginal communities or an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
- Experience using Communicare or similar electronic patient record systems.
