About the Role:

Head of Department – Mathematics 3-year leadership appointment and permanent teaching position.

Brisbane Boys’ College is seeking an outstanding leader to guide and inspire our Mathematics Department. Appointed for a 3-year term as Head of Department – Mathematics, the successful candidate will also hold a permanent teaching position within the College.

As Head of Department, you will shape the vision and direction of Mathematics at BBC, leading curriculum design, mentoring and developing staff, fostering innovation, and ensuring every student experiences exceptional teaching and learning.

Employment Type:

Full-Time, Three-Year Fixed Term - Head of Department for Mathematics, Permanent Substantive Teaching Role.

About you:

You are a passionate and experienced educator with proven leadership capability. You will bring professional credibility, energy and integrity to the role, and you are committed to blending the best of traditional teaching with contemporary, research-informed practice. You value collaboration, student wellbeing and academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic direction and foster a culture of high expectations, innovation, and continuous improvement within the Mathematics Department.

Lead the design, delivery, and review of curriculum programs, ensuring alignment with the Australian Curriculum V 9. and the new senior syllabus.

Lead,



mentor and develop departmental staff, including performance development, induction and supporting their professional growth.

Utilise data and evidence-based practice to monitor and analyse student performance to inform teaching practice and maximise student outcomes and wellbeing.

Engage in skilled learning and encourage innovation in teaching practice.

Build positive partnerships with parents, universities, alumni and external networks.

Contribute actively to the wider College community.

Oversee departmental resources, budgets, timetabling, and day-to-day operations to ensure efficient functioning of the department.

Ensure departmental practices meet school policies, safeguarding standards, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Qualifications/Skills/Attributes

Tertiary qualifications in Mathematics education with expertise in Methods and Specialist Maths.

Minimum 5 years teaching experience.

Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

Demonstrated record of academic success and curriculum expertise.

Deep understanding of QCAA and Australian Curriculum requirements.

Commitment to ongoing professional growth, innovation and positive psychology.

Proven record of building strong teams, driving improvement and staff development.

Proven ability to use evidence and data to monitor progress, inform decisions, and implement targeted strategies that drive continuous improvement and student success.

Experience holding roles with QCAA (Endorsement,



Confirmation and Marker) preferred but not essential.
