If you’re an experienced piling rig operator and you’re sick of spending half your life travelling across Sydney, this might be worth a read.
We’re Sydney Piling, a specialist piling and foundations company working predominantly around Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and beaches, mainly on high-end residential projects. We’re looking for an experienced rig operator to join the team, and for the right person the biggest difference is probably pretty simple: you can work close to home, finish at a reasonable time and actually get some of your life back.
This isn’t an entry-level role. We’re looking for someone with at least three years’ experience operating piling rigs, with solid CFA experience. If you’ve spent the last few years on larger civil or Tier 2-style jobs, you’ll already understand the standards, pressure, machinery and production expectations that come with the work. What’s different here is the environment you’ll be doing it in.
Most of our jobs are smaller high-end residential sites around the Eastern Suburbs, so you’re not just another operator buried inside a huge project team. You’ll be part of a tight crew, working closely with the excavator and pump operators, understanding the job, looking after your rig and keeping things moving safely and efficiently. We care about production, but not at the expense of safety or quality. We want people who know how to get the job done properly without cutting corners.
A big part of the role is taking ownership. We expect you to look after your machine, keep it clean, do your checks properly,
understand what’s happening around you and speak up if something isn’t right. You’ll also need to communicate well with supervisors, clients and the rest of the crew, and be someone people actually want to work with.
We’ve got a pretty strict no-jerks policy, and we mean it. You can be an excellent operator, but if you’re disrespectful, constantly complaining, difficult to work with or think everyone else is beneath you, it probably won’t work here. We want someone experienced who still knows how to be part of a team, treat people properly and help the whole crew perform well.
In return, you’ll get consistent full-time work predominantly around the Eastern Suburbs, good plant and equipment, weekly pay on time and a strong focus on safety, quality and doing things properly. We also have production bonuses, so if the crew performs well, there’s upside for you too.
There’s room to progress as well. You might want to stay as a strong operator and become one of the key people in the company, or you might want to move into leading hand, supervisor or broader site leadership roles over time. We’re growing, so there’s somewhere to go if you want it.
There’s around 40 of us in total and the team is pretty tight-knit. A lot of the guys train together, play footy and paddle, have beers and BBQs and generally know each other outside work as well. You don’t have to be involved in all of that, but it gives you an idea of the culture. We want valuable people who work hard, back each other and enjoy being part of the crew.
