About Meshcrete
Meshcrete Sydney Pty Ltd is an established reinforcement steel processor and supplier servicing the construction industry. Operating from our Lidcombe facility, we use a broad range of automated and industrial machinery to process reinforcing bar, coil and mesh products.
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter with strong mechanical maintenance skills and demonstrated industrial electrical fault-finding experience to support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our production plant.
The position
Reporting to the General Manager, the Maintenance Fitter will be responsible for planned and breakdown maintenance across Meshcrete’s production machinery and ancillary plant.
The position is predominantly a mechanical fitting and industrial machinery maintenance role. However, the successful applicant must also have strong experience identifying and diagnosing electrical faults within industrial production equipment.
Key responsibilities
Carrying out planned preventative, predictive and breakdown maintenance on reinforcement steel processing machinery and ancillary plant.
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, machinery manuals, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams and electrical schematics.
Determining suitable repair methods, materials and sequences of work.
Dismantling, inspecting, repairing, replacing, fitting, aligning and reassembling mechanical parts and machinery components.
Checking the accuracy, alignment, clearance and fit of repaired and assembled components using appropriate measuring instruments.
Maintaining and repairing bearings, shafts, rollers, gearboxes, chains, belts, conveyors, drive systems, motors and other mechanical assemblies.
Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic,
pneumatic and electrical faults affecting production machinery.
Repairing and maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic systems, cylinders, valves, actuators, pipes and fluid-power equipment.
Assisting with the installation, relocation, testing, modification and commissioning of plant and machinery.
Investigating recurring machinery failures, undertaking root‑cause analysis and recommending improvements to reliability and production efficiency.
Performing daily machinery inspections, start‑up checks, lubrication and applicable equipment checks.
Completing maintenance schedules, work orders, inspection records and routine or ad‑hoc maintenance reports.
Managing and replenishing spare‑parts inventory to ensure critical components remain available.
Liaising with machinery manufacturers, technical‑support providers, contractors and licensed electricians regarding faults, repairs, spare parts and upgrades.
Complying with isolation, lockout/tagout, permit‑to‑work, risk assessment, safe work procedure and other WHS requirements.
Undertaking electrical work only where appropriately licensed and authorised under applicable NSW requirements.
Working reasonable overtime or weekends where required for urgent breakdowns, planned shutdowns or major maintenance work.
Essential skills and experience
A relevant mechanical trade qualification, such as a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, a recognised equivalent qualification, or at least three years of substantial directly relevant industrial maintenance‑fitting experience.
At least three years of experience maintaining industrial production, manufacturing or processing machinery.
Demonstrated hands‑on experience dismantling, repairing, fitting, aligning and reassembling mechanical machinery and components.
Strong mechanical fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
Demonstrated industrial electrical fault‑finding experience involving production machinery, motors, sensors, contactors, overloads and machine‑control systems.
Experience maintaining and troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Experience repairing bearings, shafts, gearboxes, conveyors, drive systems and related components.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, machinery manuals, electrical schematics and hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments and appropriate maintenance tools.
Sound knowledge of machinery isolation, lockout/tagout and workplace safety requirements.
Ability to complete clear and accurate maintenance records and technical reports.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a production workplace.
Desirable skills and licences
Experience maintaining reinforcement steel processing machinery or similar automated industrial equipment.
Experience with MEP machinery, including Focus, Syntax Line, Mini Syntax, Planet or Step Weld equipment.
Experience with Schnell or comparable bar‑processing machinery.
Experience using a computerised maintenance management system.
Current NSW electrical licence or relevant disconnect/reconnect authority.
Experience assisting with machinery installation and commissioning.
