This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 4, 2026

Meekatharra District High School (DHS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Early Childhood Teacher to join our team.

At Meekatharra DHS, we set high expectations for our students to become lifelong learners who show respect for culture, themselves, and others, and who strive for a strong future. We are a close-knit learning community, enriched by diversity and a broad range of educational backgrounds.

Our students and families are proud to live “On Country” and make the most of the natural beauty and resources that surround us. Although our school is small, it is strong, with a teaching team comprising both graduates and highly experienced local staff. Our staff culture is supportive and collegiate, with a strong focus on health and wellbeing. New staff are welcomed into community activities, and local events. The Role

Working across our Kindergarten and KindiLink programs, you will have the opportunity to work with small groups of children and their families, supporting our youngest learners as they begin their journey into school.

The successful applicant will teach our Kindergarten class three days per week and lead our KindiLink program two days per week. KindiLink is a play-and-learn program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who are not yet old enough for school, attended alongside a parent or carer. The program provides three hours of play-based learning twice a week, supporting children's early development and helping families build positive connections with school before kindergarten.

The ideal applicant will have a strong understanding of the Western Australian Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines, the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), and contemporary early childhood practice. Knowledge and experience in PreLit/InitiaLit and Heggerty phonemic awareness and purposeful play-based learning would be highly regarded.

The successful applicant will ideally create a warm, inclusive learning environment where children feel safe, connected and ready to learn. They would build strong relationships with children, families, staff and the wider community, while supporting each child’s academic, social and emotional development through purposeful, evidence-based and play-based learning.

At Meekatharra DHS, our teachers work collaboratively, contribute to whole-school priorities and are committed to their own professional growth.

Positive interpersonal skills, flexibility and a willingness to contribute to our supportive staff culture are important.

At our school, you will enjoy:

- Small class sizes, providing more time with individual children and greater flexibility to respond to their learning and developmental needs.
- Supportive colleagues and excellent facilities, including modern learning spaces and expansive outdoor areas.
- Opportunities to contribute to whole-school programs and events, work closely with families, and become an active part of the Meekatharra school community.

We are looking for someone who is ideally:

- Passionate about early childhood education, bringing warmth, professionalism and high expectations to their work.
- Able to build positive and respectful relationships with children, families and the wider school community.
- Highly organised, emotionally intelligent, dependable and adaptable in their approach.
- Able to work collaboratively and positively as part of a supportive school team.
- Culturally responsive with a strong commitment to improving the academic, social and emotional outcomes of Aboriginal children.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic educator to make a real difference in a well-resourced, community-focused environment.

There is also an opportunity for the successful applicant to commence before Term 4 if available.
