Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Research Fellow Higher (ST3-5/ST6+)/Senior - Urology (Kidney Cancer) to commence from 05 October 2026 until 01 October 2027 at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The purpose of the post is to provide urological training and competencies in the surgical management of kidney cancer, experience in subspecialist clinics, and engagement in high-impact translational research.

The Urology Department consists of 18 urology Consultants, including 5 academic consultants. The department centralises provision of urological oncology care including bladder, prostate, kidney and testicular cancers to a large part of the East Anglian Region in addition to fulfilling its District Hospital functions.

The post-holder will participate in a middle grade, non-resident 1 in 9 on call rota.

In order to be considered applicants must meet the essential criteria outlined in the person specification and have:

- MRCS or equivalent qualification.
- Completed a minimum of core surgical training in the UK or equivalent.
- Demonstrated a keen interest in clinical or translational research.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application is required.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Positive Medical Practice (2013).



Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Addenbrooke’s Hospital is one of the highest volume kidney cancer surgical centres in the UK, with expertise in the management of small renal masses with robotic partial nephrectomies, larger tumours through laparoscopic and open radical nephrectomies, and locally advanced disease in the form of IVC Thrombectomy. In addition, there is close interdisciplinary team working between Surgery, Oncology, Radiology, Clinical Genetics and Histopathology. Research is embedded within the patient pathway, with the majority of our patients involved in biobanking, surgical, neo-adjuvant or adjuvant trials. Outputs from these trials are frequently presented in high impact journals and international conferences.
