About the role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Assistant Financial Accountant plays a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting and compliance outcomes. The role supports core accounting activities including reconciliations, statutory reporting, and end user support for the financial management system.

Key responsibilities include:

- Preparing and maintain accurate financial records, including month-end journals, balance sheet and sub-ledger reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and fixed asset accounting.
- Supporting statutory and compliance reporting, including assisting with annual financial statements, audit processes, and the preparation and lodgement of BAS and FBT returns in accordance with legislative and Treasury requirements.
- Providing operational support to users of the financial management system, including responding to queries, supporting system updates and upgrades, and assisting with financial transactions across Parliament-managed entities.

About you





You are a detail-oriented accounting professional with experience supporting core financial accounting activities, such as preparing journals and financial statements, and working with financial management systems. You bring:

- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial information and apply accounting standards, legislation and business requirements in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to provide accurate advice to stakeholders, work collaboratively as part of a team, and maintain high standards of integrity and confidentiality.
- Strong systems and organisational capability, including experience using financial management systems and the ability to manage competing priorities while delivering accurate and timely outcomes.
