Overview
Raytheon Australia is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a major upgrade to the Variable Tuning Equipment (VTE), a critical part of the world‑class Very Low Frequency (VLF) Transmitter at the Harold E. Holt Defence Precinct near Exmouth, Western Australia. The role reports to the HEH/VLF Engineering Authority.
Responsibilities
- Support a design review of the VTE upgrade design pack prior to installation and attend ad‑hoc design review meetings with the Commonwealth of Australia.
- Prepare the VTE Upgrade Design Review Report including anticipated Work Health and Safety (WHS) risks where U.S. standards differ from Australian standards.
- Assist in updating the Raytheon Radiation Safety Plan and a Hazard/Risk Assessment.
- Provide technical support to the Commonwealth of Australia during implementation, engaging with the U.S. Naval Information Warfare Center Project Engineer and assisting with acceptance testing.
- Conduct reviews of acceptance test activities performed by the U.S. and produce Acceptance Test Review Reports.
- Support the conduct of System Operational Verification Tests (SOVT) performed by the U.S. Navy, including acting as a Test Witness when required.
- Manage staged upgrade activities in line with the Raytheon EMS, producing approved Variances and Engineering Change Packages (ECPs) to support service release for each major upgrade element.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering and at least three years of post‑graduate skilled engineering experience.
- Ability to understand diverse electrical and RF communications systems.
- Knowledge of key Systems Engineering activities such as design reviews, hazard/risk assessments, formal V&V; testing, engineering change and service release.
- Familiarity with Australian Standards electrical and safety standards.
- Good understanding of the Raytheon Engineering Management System and the Systems Engineering lifecycle.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance and comply with ITAR material access requirements.
