About St Mary MacKillop College

St Mary MacKillop College is Canberra’s largest secondary school, operating across two campuses. Years 7 to 9 are based on the Padua Campus (Wanniassa) and Years 10 to 12 are based on the St Peter’s Campus (Isabella Plains). About the Role

A Religious Education Teacher plans and delivers lessons that help students develop an understanding of religious beliefs, values, ethics, and spirituality while encouraging respect for diverse faiths and worldviews. They create engaging learning experiences, assess student progress, and promote critical thinking about moral and social issues. In addition to classroom teaching, they contribute to student wellbeing, support the school's values and ethos, collaborate with colleagues and parents, and participate in professional development. Strong communication skills, subject knowledge, and the ability to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications and Eligibility

- Bachelor of Teaching/Education or Master of Teaching
- ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration
- ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) registration

To teach Religious Education in a Catholic school, a teacher must:

- Provide a reference from a current Parish Priest; and
- Have completed or be due to complete Accreditation D – Teach Religious Education in a Catholic school in accordance with the Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead in Catholic Education, Canberra and Goulburn Policy.
