Aboriginal Cadetship Program
Join Mercy Health Australia as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cadet in Nursing, Midwifery or Allied Health. The program offers pre‑graduation professional experience over a fixed term of eight weeks (equivalent to 40 shifts over 12 months). Cadets may undertake the program at either Mercy Hospital for Women or Werribee Mercy Hospital.

Type: Fixed Term, full time (40 shifts over 12 months). Location: Mercy Hospital for Women or Werribee Mercy Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient‑centered, family‑oriented, evidence‑based care within an inter‑professional team environment to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.
- Support patient activities of daily living, ensuring personal needs and comforts are maintained.
- Assist in maintaining a safe patient setting and provide additional supervision to ensure patient safety.
- Offer general support to the health care team to ensure effective and efficient care delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
- Excellent clinical, time‑management, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to adapt and problem‑solve.
- A compassionate, flexible and positive approach to effective patient care and management.
- Capability to nurture friendly, respectful relationships and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Currently enrolled full‑time in a Bachelor or Masters entry degree in Nursing, Midwifery or Allied Health.
- Progressed beyond the first year of studies and maintaining a pass grade in all subjects.
- Identification as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Additional Requirements
- Current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
- Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccinations in accordance with public health orders.
