This role supports the daily operation of the Routine Haematology, Coagulation and Morphology laboratory, ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic results. As a Grade 3 Medical Scientist, you will provide technical leadership, staff supervision and specialist expertise in a dynamic diagnostic environment. Key aspects include:

Laboratory Operations: Coordinating daily workflow, staff allocation and routine laboratory activities. Specialist Expertise: Performing and overseeing haematology, coagulation and morphology testing, including blood film review. Quality & Compliance: Supporting quality assurance activities and maintaining NATA accreditation requirements.

Staff Support: Providing training, supervision and competency assessment for laboratory staff. Continuous Improvement: Contributing to assay, workflow and service improvements. Resource Management: Assisting with rostering and laboratory resource management.





Teamwork & Communication: Working closely with pathologists, clinicians and laboratory staff to deliver high-quality services. Safety & Professional Practice: Maintaining laboratory safety standards and supporting professional development. A detail-oriented Medical Scientist who performs diagnostic testing in accordance with established protocols, ensuring high standards of quality, safety and accuracy while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary laboratory team.

Perform routine diagnostic laboratory testing in line with protocols. Ensure quality, accuracy and safety of all analytical work. Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.

Record and manage data, specimens and reagents effectively. Collaborate with team, support training and continuous improvement. About the Department- Program.

Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a formal partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service as one of two pathology networks for metropolitan Melbourne. All roles in the Pathology Programs are working to develop the Partnership and ensure we continue to provide high quality care for the patients across the health services. Monash Health Pathology is an integral part of Monash Health.

It is the largest public provider of Pathology services in the state and currently operates 6 laboratories. The largest of these is located at the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton, with additional laboratories located at the Dandenong, Moorabbin, Casey, Victorian Heart Hospital and Wonthaggi Hospitals. There are currently 18 collection locations based within the hospital sites and community settings.

Services are provided to the Public and Private sectors, and other laboratory services. About the Role Join Monash Health Pathology as a Medical Scientist Grade 3 in the Routine Haematology, Coagulation and Morphology Laboratory.

In this senior role,



you will supervise daily laboratory operations and support the delivery of accurate, timely and high-quality diagnostic services. You will provide specialist expertise in haematology, coagulation and blood film morphology, oversee quality and accreditation requirements, and contribute to assay and workflow improvements. The role also includes staff supervision, training, competency assessment and rostering.

Working closely with pathologists, clinicians and laboratory staff, you will promote quality, safety and continuous improvement while supporting excellent patient care. A strong commitment to professional development and expert morphology skills are essential. This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with strong analytical skills, attention to detail and effective communication.

A commitment to professional development, and the ability to manage a varied workload in a fast-paced environment are essential. Experience in blood film morphology is essential, supporting accurate interpretation and reporting within haematology services. About

You To be successful in this healthcare role, you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience, and attributes: Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or recognised equivalent is essential

Comnpleted or working towards a post gradute qualification (e.g Fellowship in Australian Institute of Medical Scientists) Demonstrated experience or strong interest in haematology laboratory testing, including routine analysis and workflows Proven experience in blood film morphology and the ability to accurately identify and interpret abnormal findings essential

Sound knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, quality control, and quality assurance procedures Proven experience in managing competency and training programs and leading staff development and education. Robust analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills with high attention to detail

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with staff at all levels Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pres
