About Us

The Metropolitan Remand Centre is a maximum-security facility for unsentenced male offenders within the Department of Justice and Community Safety

What You Will Do

As Senior Prison Officer, you will lead prison officers at the Metropolitan Remand Centre. You will help keep prisoners, staff and visitors safe while supporting prisoner rehabilitation.

You Will

- lead the day-to-day work of prison officers and support your team.
- keep prisoners, staff and visitors safe by following security and safety procedures.
- manage a caseload of prisoners, including complex cases, and support their progress.
- coach prison officers in assessment, case management, programs and prison procedures.
- give clear directions to prisoners, manage concerns and conduct searches for contraband.

About You





You must have completed the Prison Officer Pre-service training. You also need the skills to use departmental computer systems for basic tasks.

You Should Also Have

- self-awareness and the ability to use feedback to improve your work.
- teamwork skills and the ability to support others during challenging situations.
- inclusive behaviour and respect for people from diverse backgrounds.
- problem-solving skills, clear communication and the ability to manage difficult conversations.
