The Clinical Coder is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely clinical classification of inpatient episodes across Metro North Health facilities. The role plays a critical part in supporting Queensland Health reporting requirements, activity-based funding, morbidity data collection and healthcare planning through the application of clinical coding standards and classification systems.
The successful candidate will review and analyse patient records, assign ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes, perform DRG grouping and undertake data quality activities to ensure the integrity of clinical information. Working across Metro North facilities as required, they will collaborate with clinicians and health information professionals, participate in documentation improvement initiatives and contribute to ongoing quality and education activities within Health Information Services.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
- Assign accurate and timely clinical and procedural codes, DRG classifications and morbidity data in accordance with Australian Coding Standards and Queensland Health requirements.
- Review and abstract information from patient records, clinical information systems and databases to support high-quality health information management.
- Conduct clinical documentation queries and data validation activities to improve coding accuracy,
documentation quality and activity-based funding outcomes.
- Collaborate with clinicians and healthcare teams to clarify clinical information, resolve discrepancies and support accurate patient episode reporting.
- Actively participate in coding quality assurance, audit reviews, education sessions and continuous improvement initiatives across Metro North Health.
