Purpose of Position

The Head of Middle School (5 – 8), as part of the College Executive Leadership Team, plays a vital role in leading our Christian educational community to be a place where children and young people thrive. The Head of Middle School is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership of the Middle School, in accordance with the College Vision and Values, in the pursuit of the highest quality learning outcomes for all students. The Head of Middle School provides significant spiritual leadership in the College, continually working to develop the College as a community of Christian faith.

Key Responsibilities include:

- Work collaboratively with the Executive Leadership Team to build a positive culture and pursue educational and operational excellence.
- Develop, articulate and lead the outworking of an educational vision within the Middle School that supports the broader vision and strategy of the College, and ensures goals and intentions are realised.
- Lead the Middle School team to create an environment that is both supportive and challenging, and promotes enthusiastic, independent learners, committed to lifelong learning where no student is left behind.
- Intentionally create a high-performing and culturally aligned team within the Middle School, that ensures authentic spiritual development, robust academic performance, positive social-emotional development and holistic wellbeing of every student.
- Guide the development of positive partnerships with parents and carers through the establishment of meaningful communication, proactive support and timely resolution of concerns.
- Be a highly visible presence in the Middle School, including in classrooms and active learning spaces,



as well as leading Middle School assemblies, organising Middle School events such as information evenings, parent/teacher discussions and presentation ceremonies.
- Oversee the management of Middle School operations and facilities, ensuring they are culturally and strategically aligned, fiscally responsible, and create a safe and effective learning environment.
- Establish and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships within and beyond the College to enhance the profile of the Middle School and secure unique and dynamic learning opportunities for students.
- Facilitate curriculum design, evaluation and continuous improvement through collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team to ensure best practice is developed and national benchmarks exceeded.
- Work collaboratively with the Principal and Registrar to support student enrolment processes, including the assessment of prospective students, family engagement, and ensuring enrolment decisions align with the College's vision, values, and strategic priorities.
- Work closely with the Principal to provide professional advice and support on staffing matters, including workforce planning, staff wellbeing, performance, skilled growth, and the effective operation of the Middle School.
- Foster a culture of effective risk management in accordance with the College policies,



procedures and guidelines, competently monitoring, mitigating and managing risks in a timely manner.

Desired Skills and Experience

- A mature, active and articulated Christian faith authentically expressed in all aspects of life and Leadership
- Active involvement in a local Christian church
- A clear understanding of what it means to be a Christian teacher and leader, and the role of Christian Schooling in the national educational landscape.
- An energetic and enthusiastic leader, whose personal leadership philosophy is founded on Christian principles and research-informed educational best practice, demonstrated preferably within a primary school setting.
- The ability and capacity to successfully identify and outwork strategic goals while managing competing priorities and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to foster a healthy culture, including the capacity to build trust with students, parents and staff during periods of challenge and change.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to foster a growth mindset among staff and students that expands worldviews, builds connections and results in positive change.
- Demonstrated outstanding pedagogical leadership and the ability to lead, design, manage and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within delegated area of responsibility.
- A passion for cultivating a research-empowered approach to holistic child growth and development in an educational setting
- A commitment to lifelong learning; spiritually, professionally and personally
- Ability to work flexibly including evenings and during term breaks
