Our Category Buying team partners closely with Planning to curate exciting, customer-first ranges that drive sales, maximise profit and keep us ahead of the curve. Working hand-in-hand with Finance, Operations and cross-functional teams, Commercial helps bring our strategy to life—ensuring we make smart decisions, forecast accurately and deliver the future of fashion every day.
We are currently looking for a Assistant Designer to join our Own Brand team. Reporting to the Own Brand Buying Manager, this role is essential in driving the conception and development of products within your allocated category by consistently bringing innovation and creativity.
About The Role
- Understand and support company-wide strategies and OKRs.
- Maintain close relationships with manufacturers to ensure the seamless handover of developments, taking accountability for ensuring sample technical packs are accurate, complete and submitted on time.
- Communicate regularly with the Design Team to ensure critical design issues or developments are highlighted and resolved.
- Select, develop and source fabrics, colours, trims and other product components in line with company standards.
- Attend fit sessions and use technical expertise to achieve the best fit,
approving final samples with the Garment Technician where required.
- Support sample management, technical packs and technical drawings.
- Support trend forecasting activities.
- Approve all details of the final product in line with the original design brief.
- Understand supplier manufacturing capabilities to identify cost and production opportunities for each design.
- Participate in range planning meetings to ensure balanced styling, colour and fabric selections.
- Ensure range boards are kept up to date and aligned with planning requirements.
What It Takes
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a Design or Product Development team.
- Experience with print, fabric and trim development.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong trend forecasting skills with a commercial eye for fashion.
- Ability to manage workload in a fast-paced environment and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop is advantageous.
- Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements.
