Bothar Boring and Tunnelling – Brisbane QLD

Bothar is a leader in Australia’s trenchless construction industry, delivering complex pipeline and civil infrastructure projects, specialising in microtunnelling and trenchless construction. We are known for our technical capability, practical engineering approach and ability to deliver challenging projects in complex construction environments.

We are currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our Brisbane team and support the delivery of current and upcoming civil and utility infrastructure projects across Queensland and the Northern Territory.

About the Role

This is a delivery-focused Project Engineer role working across a variety of civil infrastructure and utility projects, including trenchless construction, sewer, pipeline, manhole construction, temporary shaft construction, utility relocations and associated civil works.

Our projects are often delivered within existing streets, built-up areas and live urban environments where access, existing services, traffic, residents and other stakeholders all need to be carefully managed.

You will work closely with the State Manager, site teams, subcontractors, clients and other stakeholders to plan and coordinate works and resolve the technical and practical challenges that come with complex urban construction.

The role will also have commercial responsibilities, including identifying and documenting delays and variations, tracking project costs, assisting with monthly progress claims and compiling supporting information for variations and claims, while supporting the QLD/NT project team with the broader commercial and contractual management of projects.

While experience in microtunnelling would be valuable,

we are looking more broadly for someone with strong civil construction experience who is comfortable working across different scopes and solving problems as they arise.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate day-to-day engineering and construction activities across civil and utility projects
- Support project planning, programming, construction methodologies and sequencing
- Support the delivery of pipeline, shaft, utility relocation and associated civil works
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including SWMS, ITPs, permits, reports and engineering records
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site activities
- Assist with subcontractor scopes, procurement, tendering and estimating as required
- Monitor and report on project progress, quality and key milestones
- Identify potential delays, variations and other commercial issues and prepare initial notices for review
- Assist with the preparation of monthly progress claims
- Track and report project costs for internal reporting and commercial management
- Compile records and supporting information to assist with the preparation and quantification of variations and claims
- Liaise with clients, Tier 1 contractors, councils and other key stakeholders
- Identify and resolve technical, constructability and operational issues
- Coordinate works around existing services, traffic and site constraints
- Support inspections, quality assurance and project compliance requirements
- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with contractual, safety, environmental and quality requirements

What We’re Looking For

- 4+ years’ experience as a Project Engineer within civil construction, utilities, water or wastewater projects
- Degree qualified in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience delivering works within existing streets, brownfield sites or other constrained urban construction environments
- Sewer infrastructure experience will be highly regarded, particularly gravity sewer works
- Experience with deep temporary shaft construction, pipelines, utility relocations or trenchless works would be advantageous
- Demonstrated ability to work across complex projects involving multiple interfaces and competing site constraints
- Experience working with councils, major contractors, utilities and other external stakeholders
- Strong understanding of construction documentation, quality systems and project delivery processes
- Experience with project cost tracking, progress claims, variations and commercial documentation
- Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
- A practical, adaptable approach and willingness to take ownership of project outcomes

Why Join Bothar?

- Permanent role with a growing specialist civil infrastructure contractor
- Work across a variety of technically challenging civil and utility projects
- Exposure to specialised microtunnelling and trenchless construction methodologies
- Opportunity to work on projects where engineering input and practical problem-solving genuinely matter
- Experienced team with opportunities for ongoing career development

If you’re an experienced Project Engineer who enjoys working on complex civil projects and is comfortable dealing with the challenges of construction in live urban environments, we’d like to hear from you.
