Islamic College of Brisbane – Karawatha QLD
The Dean of Students (School Officer) is a specialist full time term-time, non-teaching role undertaken by a non-teacher during school weeks. The Dean of Students reports to the Head of Student Wellbeing and Support and is responsible for supporting staff in addressing the behavioural and wellbeing needs of students, particularly those who require additional support to overcome barriers to learning.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure the Student Discipline Policy is implemented consistently across the College (Primary and Secondary)
- Develop and deliver preventative and proactive approaches to behaviour support
- Analyse behaviour data and trends and lead the development of targeted responses for individual students and small groups
- Support staff in strengthening conflict resolution, problem-solving skills, and classroom management practices
- Work closely with the Pastoral Development Team and the Diverse Learning Department to ensure effective information sharing
- Organise behavioural intervention programs, including detention, and oversee and supervise the management of discipline records
- Manage data entries and analysis to monitor classroom exits, detentions, suspensions, academic achievement, and referrals
- Develop and communicate appropriate behavioural strategies and student profiles to teachers and establish steps and procedures for handling challenging students
- Mentor and counsel at‑risk students and students in need of additional staff support
- Communicate to parents, teachers, and staff regarding infractions of the code of conduct and liaise with parents regarding behaviour, wellbeing, and positive matters
About you
- Qualifications in Psychology or Behaviour Management would be highly desirable
- Outstanding communication skills demonstrated by rapport with all levels of staff, students, and parents/guardians, including the ability to effectively achieve outcomes under difficult and/or personally confronting circumstances
- An ability to manage a multitude of complex projects and tasks simultaneously
- A solution‑orientated person, with ability and a desire to identify and bring about significant improvement and streamlining of processes, systems and record keeping
- Demonstrate a genuine commitment to the College's values, philosophy, and Islamic ethos and to preserve its traditions, while also articulating an appropriate vision for the future
- Must hold a current WWC Blue Card

The Islamic College of Brisbane (ICB) is a Prep to Year 12 co‑educational, independent growing school, located on the southern outskirts of Brisbane in the suburb of Karawatha located in the South East Queensland region.
