Your next career opportunity
You will be a key developer on the Cultural Collections Nexus Project’s Cross-Collection Search platform. You will design and implement features that enable inclusive, powerful discovery of artworks, artefacts and digital collections. You will collaborate with engineers and product leaders to build scalable architecture, integrations and search capabilities.
What you will deliver
- Design, build and customise the Cross-Collection Search portal using Ruby on Rails and the Blacklight framework.
- Implement technical architecture and integrations with Apache Solr and the foundational DAM platform to unify collections.
- Configure metadata ingestion and search capabilities, supporting natural language search, visual exploration and recommendations.
- Translate stakeholder needs into Agile user stories, contributing to backlog prioritisation and sprint planning.
- Develop, test and support applications using CI/CD tools, ensuring secure, compliant and high‑quality digital stewardship.
You may be a great fit if you
- Hold undergraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline, or possess equivalent professional experience and training.
- Demonstrate strong full stack experience with Ruby on Rails and modern web technologies such as JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
- Use technologies including Python frameworks, Apache Solr, SQL, Docker, AWS and CI pipelines like GitHub.
- Apply Agile and DevOps practices, including backlog management, iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
- Manage automation, configuration and performance using tools such as Ansible, Rancher and monitoring solutions like Splunk.
- Bring a self‑driven, open and learning mindset, with passion for owning end‑to‑end software solutions.

You will work within the Chief Financial Officer Group, part of the Chief Operating Officer Portfolio, which enables the University’s core activities through strong resources and services. As part of the Cultural Collections Nexus Project, you will partner with colleagues across collections, technology and business services.
