About the role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Chemical Pathology Senior Scientist to join our Quality Assurance Programs team. This role is ideal for a senior scientist with strong diagnostic laboratory experience who is looking to apply their expertise in a quality focused and customer facing environment. Working alongside managers, senior executive staff and other team members, you will contribute to the planning, preparation, testing and delivery of proficiency testing (EQA) materials, as well as support administrative, analytical and client-focused activities.
This role plays a key part in ensuring our programs meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17043 and continue to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services to laboratories across Australia and internationally.
This is a full-time parental leave cover (37.5 hours per week) for a minimum of 12 months.
Key responsibilities include:
- Apply expert knowledge in Chemical Pathology to review and interpret participant results
- Lead in the research, planning and development of existing and new modules for the RCPAQAP as required.
- Provide mentoring, leadership and direction to members of their team and across the organisation
- Participate in the development of educational material for the business unit
- Respond to technical enquiries in a professional and timely manner
- Develop and assist with educational material, reports, and workshops for participants.
- Assist with continuous improvement activities aligned with quality, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality program delivery.
Location
The position is located in St Leonards, Sydney, and the oce is within walking distance of the train station and the Pacific Highway.
1. Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate Medical Laboratory Science or Biomedical Science.
2. Minimum 3 years of recent experience within an accredited clinical laboratory.
3. Demonstrated expertise in chemical pathology.
4. Strong understanding of quality systems, accreditation standards, and laboratory best practices.
5. Proven ability to engage effectively with customers, including providing advice, resolving queries, and supporting quality improvement.
6. Demonstrated planning and project management capabilities.
7. Willingness to handle survey material according to company standard operating procedures and WHS guidelines.
8. Proven interest in the development/improvement of diagnostic laboratory testing and procedures.
9. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
10. High-level technical and report-writing skills.
11. Proven record of attention to detail with a strong emphasis on accuracy.
12. Demonstrated superior verbal and written communication skills.
13.
Intermediate or advanced experience in Microsoft office software, particularly MS Word and MS Excel.
14. Demonstrated commitment to the principles and practice of EEO, Ethical Conduct, diversity and WHS.
15. Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work visa required
1. Experience with laboratory quality systems, NATA accreditation or general quality management principles.
2. Experience working with or understanding of EQA / proficiency testing programs.
3. Experience with statistical analysis and quality indicators.
4. Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Systems.
5. Willingness to engage in public speaking opportunities (e.g. professional conferences).
6. Demonstrated planning and project management capabilities.
7. Established and credible scientist in their own field (based on published papers, invited lectures, chairing committees and meetings, collaboration with colleagues).
8. Openness to exploring and adopting emerging technologies, including the use of AI tools to support innovation, efficiency and continuous improvement.
9. Demonstrable experience in preparing and delivering public communication pieces (public speaking and presentations).
10. Significant understanding of the scientific community and active engagement with relevant associations (membership and committee activities).
11. Current membership of a related professional organisation (e.g. AACB).
