Position Purpose:

To provide case management support to people experiencing domestic and family violence who are referred by police.

Classification:

Level 5 Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.

Employment Status:

Part-time, up to 43.5hours per fortnight.

Hours of work:

CADA’s hours of operation are between 8am-6pm Monday to Friday. Most of our PRADO Practitioner's work 8:30am to 4:30pm.

ABOUT US

The Centre Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) is a community organisation funded by the Queensland Government to respond to adults and children affected by domestic and family violence. We provide counselling and crisis/court support, referrals, risk assessment and safety planning, and high risk integrated service responses, as well as trauma informed recovery focused support for women. CADA is active in advocacy, community education and early intervention and, prevention strategies work towards a future free from domestic and family violence, in partnership with government and organisations working in the sector. We operate from offices at Morayfield, Redcliffe and Strathpine.

The position comes under a co-location model with the embedded DFV Practitioner based in a police station working alongside the QPS Vulnerable Persons Unit.



The primary responsibility of this position is to deliver quality case management as part of the Domestic and Family Violence Intervention Response to increase the safety and wellbeing for victim survivors at risk. This position provides early intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy and information for victim survivors across Moreton Bay following Queensland Police Service (QPS) attendance to a domestic and family violence incident. To support victim survivors who have experienced domestic and family violence (aggrieved persons). The position is not attending or responding to incidents of DFV with police. Referrals are made by police to the PRADO Practitioner and support is provided primarily via phone although sometimes in person at the station.

The practitioner may refer victim survivors who are assessed to be at imminent risk of serious harm or lethality to the High-Risk Team (HRT) to collaboratively case manage and increase safety within the Integrated Service System.

QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of tertiary degree in social work, psychology, behavioural science, or other related field plus a minimum of 2 work years experience in a similar position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Establish contact with clients who attend the police station or who are referred by police
- Ascertain contributing factors and prioritise client needs
- Conduct risk assessment and triage referrals
- Provide information on relevant internal and external services
- Identify potential barriers to client engagement
- Liaise and advocate between linked services and the client
- Make follow up contact with client when requiredCarry out short term case management when required and review case progress
- Provide additional services as required
- Obtain feedback from client on relevant services where required
- Maintain current knowledge of all relevant services provided by the community sector
- Obtain and maintain and depth of knowledge and understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Practice Principles, Standards and Guidance, the DFV information sharing guidelines and other relevant legislation, ensuring these guide all client work
- Work effectively and sensitively with diverse communities within CADA’s catchment area to ensure that their cultural needs are met
- Collaborate with the PRADO Manager in the annual performance review process (including probation period)
- Liaise with CADA, Police,



Child Safety, Corrections and the community sector in relation to improving service delivery, attending DVCAM fortnightly meetings
- Provide support, training and mentoring of practitioners and students as requested by manager or designated supervisor to support onboarding and professional development of colleagues
- Associated administration tasks
- Other duties as directed by the CEO, manager or designated supervisor

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Comply with CADA policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate client records and other data as required by CADA and funding body
- Work cooperatively and supportively as a member of a team to achieve the smooth and effective functioning of the service and the achievement of organisational and client goals
- Assist with the development of appropriate written resources in relation to domestic and family violence responses and prevention
- Participate in CADA events, staff supervision and mentoring, staff meetings and team building activities
- Assist in the development and facilitation of community education and training to raise awareness of domestic and family violence issues and to increase the capacity of the community and other workers in the region in responding to domestic and family violence
- Actively contribute to the organisation’s commitment to prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children and young people

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Tertiary qualifications relevant to the position and significant demonstrated experience of early intervention and primary prevention of domestic and family violence. This will include a working knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and the dynamics of domestic and family violence.
2. Demonstrated experience case managing high risk clients and using interpersonal skills to conduct safety plans, referrals and meet the immediate risks and needs of the client, and experience working with QPS or Government organisation.
3. Ability to work in a demanding multi-disciplinary team workplace to address the needs of women and families experiencing domestic and family violence, demonstrating a composed and reliable manner with minimal supervision. Proactively manage workload to a high standard.
4. Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of innovative intervention practices including crisis response, trauma informed counselling, therapeutic, psycho-educational, community education and/or training with women and families particularly those who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence.
5. Demonstrated high level interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills (verbal and written) including computer literacy (MS Office Suite, Desktop).
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a sound knowledge and understanding the issues which impact diverse communities in contemporary society.

REQUIREMENTS

- National Criminal History Check, police check and police vetting
- Must inform CADA of any Domestic and Family Violence applications or orders naming you as respondent (current or in the past)
- Blue card for Working with Children (Queensland)
- Current Queensland Driver’s Licence
- Advanced Computer literacy (particularly with Excel)
