About the Role
Our Mt Kelly Operations (Lady Annie mine), located approximately 120km north-northwest of Mount Isa, has been an operational copper mine for over 10 years. We are currently seeking skilled and safety-focused Senior Mine Surveyor to join our team and contribute to the growing success of our processing operations.
What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager – Mining, the Senior Mine Surveyor leads the delivery of surveying services across Austral Resources' open cut mining operations. The role is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate provision of survey control, production pickups, UAV surveys, set-outs, volume calculations, compliance monitoring, spatial data management and end-of-month reconciliation to support safe, efficient and compliant mining operations. The Senior Mine Surveyor also provides technical leadership, mentors survey personnel and works collaboratively with Technical Services, Operations and contractors to achieve production objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Always act in a manner that promotes and enhances the safety culture and operational performance of Austral Resources.
Lead the delivery of all mine surveying activities across multiple open cut mining operations, ensuring survey services are completed safely,
accurately and efficiently.
Supervise, mentor and provide technical guidance to the site Surveyors, promoting best practice, consistency and professional development.
Establish, maintain and verify survey control networks, benchmarks and datum systems to support safe and accurate mining operations.
Complete and oversee survey pickups, set-outs and mark-ups for dig limits, drill and blast patterns, haul roads, waste dumps, stockpiles, infrastructure and other operational requirements.
Process survey data, UAV imagery and point cloud datasets to produce accurate plans, surfaces, models and reports for Technical Services and Operations.
Conduct and verify end-of-month surveys, reconciliation reporting and volume calculations for ore, waste, stockpiles and dumps across multiple operations.
Ensure survey data, plans and spatial information are recorded, managed and stored in accordance with company standards, statutory requirements and survey best practice.
Monitor mining activities against approved designs and provide timely compliance reporting, highlighting any deviations from plan.
Provide technical survey support to Mine Engineers, Geologists, Production Supervisors and mining contractors to assist with planning and production activities.
Coordinate and prioritise survey activities across multiple mining areas to ensure operational requirements are achieved.
Maintain accurate as-built records, statutory plans and survey documentation in accordance with legislative and company requirements.

Key Requirements
Tertiary qualification in Surveying or equivalent
Demonstrated experience as a Mine Surveyor within an open cut mining environment, with the capability to lead survey activities across multiple operations.
Proficiency with Deswik Spatial, Pix4D, Virtual Surveyor and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong understanding of open pit mining processes, drill and blast support, production compliance, as-built records and reconciliation requirements.
Robust data management, spatial accuracy, reporting and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical services, production and contractor teams.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with Technical Services, Operations and contractors.
High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data integrity and survey accuracy.
Proven experience supervising or mentoring survey personnel is highly regarded.
Current Manual Drivers Licence.
