Metropolitan South Region is seeking a Principal Advisor, Indigenous English as an Additional Language or Dialect (IEAL/D) to join the team.

This position is offered in a Temporary full-time capacity until 11 December 2026, unless otherwise determined.

The successful candidate will be employed at the classification listed on the attached role description under EOSD provisions.

About the Role:

As the Principal Advisor for Indigenous English as an Additional Language or Dialect (IEAL/D) for the Metropolitan South Region, you will play a crucial role in enhancing educational outcomes for Indigenous learners across the region.

Responsibilities Include:

- Coordinate and conduct online and face to face professional development, targeted to identified IEAL/D needs for curriculum leaders, designated coaches and teachers using the department's Guidelines for Professional Learning.
- Strengthen curriculum leaders, designated coaches and teachers knowledge of the IEAL/D frameworks as they relate to the Australian Curriculum by focusing professional development on student learning, effective teaching strategies and how to differentiate learning.
- Improve curriculum leaders,



designated coaches and teachers' understanding of best practice in assessment by ensuring that professional development models effective practices documented in the Brighter Futures Education Strategy.
- Build curriculum leaders, designated coaches and teachers capability to use regionally approved diagnostic tools for IEAL/D learners and make consistent and comparable teacher judgments through providing targeted career development.
- Model and improve curriculum leaders, designated coaches and teachers understandings of contemporary teaching practices for IEAL/D learners by using digital technologies to enhance professional development.
- Support curriculum leaders, designated coaches and teachers with the teaching of IEAL/D students by identifying the English language demands of tasks, texts and interactions, and identifying targeted language teaching, resources and strategies to help students meet the demands of the curriculum in a whole class context.
- Model high quality teaching focused on the achievement of IEAL/D learners by using regionally approved frameworks.
- Promote and coordinate teacher moderation processes for state schools by promoting regionally approved diagnostic tools.
- Manage funds according to budget requirements and report on project outcomes and outputs.
- Develop and maintain currency of professional knowledge and skills relevant to the required outcomes and duties.
- Build personal relationships and a knowledge base which foster an understanding of factors that influence Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language ecologies in the region, and the linguistic repertoires of families and students, and promote the ethos of the State Schools Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages Statement.
