Manage IaaS instances on OCI including Compute, Block Storage, Virtual Cloud Networks (VCN), and associated networking constructs. Perform OS patching, upgrades, kernel tuning, and lifecycle management in line with client change management processes. Administer logical volume management (LVM), filesystem layouts, NFS/SMB mounts, and storage provisioning. Configure and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery solutions (clustering, failover, replication).
Cloud & OCI Operations Provision and manage OCI Compute instances, including Bare Metal, VM Shapes, and Dedicated VM Hosts. Configure OCI networking components: VCN, subnets, security lists, network security groups, load balancers, and FastConnect/VPN. Manage OCI Identity and Access Management (IAM), compartments, policies, and tenancy governance. Implement and manage OCI Block Volume, File Storage, and Object Storage for workload requirements. Monitor and optimise OCI resource utilisation, costs, and performance via OCI Monitoring, Logging, and Alarms.
Automation & DevOps Develop and maintain automation scripts using Shell (Bash/Ksh), Python, or Ansible for provisioning, configuration management, and routine operations. Leverage OCI CLI, Terraform, and/or OCI Resource Manager for infrastructure-as-code deployments. Integrate with ITSM tooling (ServiceNow or equivalent) for incident, change, and problem management workflows.
Security & Compliance Apply OS-level security hardening (CIS benchmarks, SELinux/AppArmor, firewall rules, PAM configuration). Manage user accounts, RBAC, SSH key infrastructure, and privileged access in line with least-privilege principles. Support audit and compliance activities including log management, vulnerability remediation, and evidence collection.
Monitoring & Incident Management Monitor system health, capacity, and performance using tools.
Act as L2/L3 for infrastructure incidents; lead root cause analysis and drive resolution within SLA. Produce operational reports, runbooks, and technical documentation for managed platforms.
Qualifications & Experience
5+ years of hands-on Linux/Unix server administration in an enterprise or managed services environment. Deep expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or Oracle Linux; proficiency in at least one additional Unix variant (AIX, Solaris, HP-UX). Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, NFS, and enterprise storage protocols (iSCSI, FC). Proven scripting skills in Bash, Python, or Perl for automation and operational tasks. Experience with enterprise virtualisation platforms (VMware vSphere, KVM, OVM). Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service delivery processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management). Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently under pressure. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client-facing engagement.
Preferred
Hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) - Compute, Networking, Storage, IAM. Exposure to Oracle Engineered Systems: Exadata, Oracle Database Appliance (ODA), or SPARC SuperCluster. Infrastructure-as-Code experience: Terraform, Ansible, OCI Resource Manager. Experience in a professional services / managed services delivery model with multiple concurrent client engagements.
Certifications Highly Desirable
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate (1Z0-1085); Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate or Professional (1Z0-1072 / 1Z0-1067); Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE); Oracle Linux System Administrator (1Z0-100); ITIL Foundation v4 Core Competencies.
