Job Description

About Us: Workfront is a recruitment agency connecting skilled candidates with permanent employment opportunities across a range of industries. About the Role: Our client is a well-established manufacturer of Magnesium Oxide and Magnesium Carbonate and is seeking an experienced Chemist to join their team.

This is a full-time permanent position reporting directly to the General Manager / Managing Director. The position is based in the picturesque rural town of Young, NSW, approximately 365 km from Sydney and 160 km from Canberra. The successful candidate will play an important role in laboratory testing, quality control, environmental compliance and the ongoing development of products and processes within the manufacturing operation. Salary: $80,000 - $100,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience, plus superannuation.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

- Qualification in Chemistry, a related field, or relevant experience within a similar industry.
- 3–5 years' experience in laboratory testing.
- Sound knowledge of wet chemistry analytical methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge and understanding of quality certification and management systems, including ISO, GMP and HACCP.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records and quality standards.
- Ability to work effectively with different departments across the organisation.




- A willingness to learn and undertake additional training where required.

Key Responsibilities:

- Maintaining the laboratory in a clean, safe and presentable condition.
- Collecting samples from the factory for testing and maintaining retention samples.
- Preparing samples for recent and prospective customers.
- Testing samples to determine the chemical and physical composition and reactive properties of raw and processed materials.
- Maintaining accurate testing records and ensuring results are properly documented.
- Maintaining strong quality control standards to ensure products meet customer requirements and specifications.
- Testing product reliability and performance under different conditions.
- Maintaining laboratory equipment and supervising servicing and calibration as required.
- Collecting and testing dust samples on a monthly basis for environmental compliance.
- Collecting and testing dust samples from surrounding areas when required.
- Assisting with the development of products and processes to achieve consistent quality while minimising costs.
- Developing and maintaining quality documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies and guidelines.
- Ensuring quality documentation remains current and meets regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Conducting regular audits to assess compliance with internal and external standards.
- Working collaboratively with other departments across the organisation when required.
- Undertaking other duties as reasonably directed by management.
