We seek a talented and creative product designer to join our team at The Modern.

We are a family owned retail furniture business based in Brisbane with retail locations in Queensland, NSW, ACT and Victoria as well as a growing Online Store. Our collection is inspired by the principles of Mid-Century Modern design: durability, functionality, attainability and timeless forms.

As a product designer, your role will be fundamental in creating and developing innovative and market leading products that meet the current market whilst also complimenting our existing and established successful product range. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, buying and suppliers to bring innovative ideas to life.

Your role will involve driving the development of new products and product ranges from concept to launch.

Our ideal candidate should have:

- a strong design aesthetic
- a good eye for colour, fabric and form
- a strong understanding of product design processes

OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE

Conducting product research and competitor analysis to understand consumer preferences and market trends. Provide insights to inform product design and development decisions.





Generating creative and innovative ideas and concepts for new products or product enhancements.

Defining product specifications, features and performance requirements based on market demands.

Work with suppliers and manufacturers to source components, materials and production development.

Co-ordinating and creating ranges and collections of both new and existing products

Create and manage project timelines to ensure the timely process from development, sample, refinement, production and delivery.

Coordinate with the marketing team to develop product launch strategies.

Monitor post launch product performance, gathering customer feedback and implementing improvements based on market insights.

Stay updated on industry trends in relation to product development and product offerings.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Proven work experience as a product designer in a related field

Strong understanding of product development processes, from ideation to commercialization.

Market awareness with the ability to translate customer needs into product requirements.

Proficiency in product design software and tools

A creative mindset and a passion for innovation

Ability to work independently as well as within a team. Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Problem-solving skills

Solid existing contacts would be beneficial but not essential
